I've have been confused about this for a while. Bootstrap did not take any gold from the chest so why did they need his blood? When Jack took a piece out he used his own blood. It doesn't make sense to me.!
Anyone know?

Um... If bootstrap took no gold from the chest then how could he send a peice to Will? Will was a pirate though, so even IF his father took no gold, Will could still use his blood.

Yes, Bootstrap did take gold from the chest. Then he wanted the others to suffer, so he sent the gold to Will so that they wouldn't be able to gather all the gold together to break the curse.

Yes, but why need Will's blood?

Me and my cousin had an argument about this once. In the scene where the curse is lifted, whose blood was actually used? Will's or Jack's? The story line goes that Will's blood was needed to lift the curse because he had bootsrap's blood. You need to pay attention to the story for that part(why else would they not let Will kill himself after that one ship is blown up?) But, it was Will who cut his hand and released the curse(because they show him cutting his hand, then Jack throws him the medalion, and they show Will with a bloody knife and and the coin/medalion that jack had).

And why Bootstrap sent it to Will, was because he did take the gold because he wanted it, and then found out about the curse. But, Bootsrap wanted the curse because he didn't like the mutiny the crew did against Jack, and thought they should be cursed forever because of it.

Or, at least that's what I caught watching PotC a bazillion times! lol!

Bootstrap Bill Turner and his merry crew of miscreants take the Aztec gold.

All of them go, "Yaaay! CURSED AZTEC GOLD!!!"

Merry Crew of Miscreants get a charged on power. Y'know, gold does that to you and all.

Barbossa, Chief Miscreant: "Duuuudes, let's mutiny against Bootstrap like we did with teh Sparrow-feller."

Rest of the merry crew of miscreants: "YAY GOLD!"

So they overthrow Bootstrap.

Audience: "Awww, poor Bootstrap."

Bootstrap: "Ahaha, you may have kicked me off my own boat, but I still have one at least one of the CURSED AZTEC GOLD!"

Merry Crew of Miscreants: "We don't care! We got the other 2805108 of them! What's one little piece of CURSED AZTEC GOLD worth to us? We got the pearl!"

Bootstrap: "[shakes fist] All right, Kid. Take the gold. I'm shipping you off into the middle of the ocean and hopefully you won't drown.... out in the middle of the ocean."

Tiny Will: "....."

Bootstrap: "[dies and goes to Davy Jones's locker]"

Tiny Will: "....."

FEW YEARS LATER

Merry Crew of Miscreants: "OHNOES, THE CURSED AZTEC GOLD IS CURSED."

Audience: "....."

Merry Crew of Miscreants: "How's we gonna break the CURSE of the CURSED AZTEC GOLD?!"

Barbossa, Chief Miscreant: "We get all the gold back and sacrifice the blood of the dude that first takes the gold."

Merry Crew of Miscreants: "How did you know that?"

Barbossa, Chief Miscreant: ".... Pirate Code?"

Merry Crew of Miscreants: "RAAAWWWRRR, BOOTSTRAP!"

Barbossa, Chief Miscreant: "Let's worry about collecting all the CURSED AZTEC GOLD."

FEW YEARS LATER

Merry Crew of Miscreants: "Hey, Barbossa. I found the last piece. And there's a pretty girl attached to it."

Barbossa: "Sweet. What's your name, Miss Pretty?"

Miss Pretty: "Elizabeth Turner."

Barbossa: "....Wow, that was very convenient. All right. Let's go!"

Merry Crew of Miscreants + Miss Pretty go off to ritual so that they can all die.

Okay the thing about Jack vs. Will's blood.

They always needed Will's blood.

Because remember Jack stops them from the sacrifice by convincing them to rally out the navy fleet outside their doorstep, so they didn't get the ritual. Jack grabbed one gold piece so that he could also become cursed, so they're ALL cursed now. However, everyone's coin was in the tomb thing except for the one that Jack slipped up his sleeve. At the opportune moment, Jack throws Will the coin and Will mixes his blood and puts the coin back. So the Bootstrap's/Will's blood was still set, we just added Jack's mumbo jumbo into the mix of things because it's a film and stuff.

They didn't actually mutinied Bootstrap, they just got really annoyed with him for supporting Jack, and Barbossa especially didn't want the rest of the crew to feel guilty and throw a mutiny on him because of what he did to Jack.

The whole blood/Bootstrap thing really confused me too for the first year after seeing CotBP! I remember watching it with a friend of mine who had seen it before and all through the movie I kept asking her "Why are they doing that?" "What are they doing now?" "How can you possibly follow this?!"

ok..so...well....

they threw bootsrap of the ship... "strapped a canon to bootstrap's bootstraps" after he sent off a piece of the treasure to will becauses he hated what they did to jack...."he said we deserved to be curse, and remain cursed"....but it was only after they got rid of him that they realized they all needed to give blood to be uncursed.

they needed will's blood be cause it's bootstrap's blood (because will is his son) now, when they are in the cave jack takes a piece of the gold...that means he also has to give blood in the end.....so......in those last scenes in the cave,they show a close up of someone cuting there hand with the gold in it, that is jack, repaying his blood..now...if i remember right, somewhere in there in the backround u can see will cut his too ( but, they do show the bloody knife in his hand so if u dont see it, your supposed to just assume)...so when will drops the coins, one has his blood (the only blood they originally needed) and the other has jacks blood (the blood they then needed cuz he took a piece)......so now.....all pieces of gold are back and everyone who took and piece (or their blood relative) has give the blood....and everyone's uncurse........except the monkey which we see after the credits.....

Maybe... the whole time while PotC CotBP is going on, Bootstrap is sitting there alive at the bottom of the ocean just... sitting there... and then, when the curse is finally lifted, then he actually dies and is then taken by Davy Jones.

*shrugs* that's what I guess.

He didn't.

"I ended up at the bottom of the ocean, the weight of the water crushing down on me. Unable to breathe. Unable to die, Jack. I thought that if I had the slightest chance of escaping this fate, I would take it."

Davy Jones appears to doomed sailors. He and his crew aren't actually dead, or else they would have passed into the other world. So he appeared to Bootstrap offering an escape and Bootstrap took it.
