I am extremely upset by this. The Golden Globes and the Oscars are the two awards I watch annually, and now that one of them is cancelled for this year, I feel kind of lost. I heard about that yesterday or the day before. (I can't remember which) I'm the same as you, its one of the two that I watch annually. Although, I understand why it's been cancelled and I fully support it. It'll be weird that they'll just be announced like a conference. I'm a bit sad about that. *sigh* Oh well. |

Wow really? Thats weird. Is that because of the writer's stirke? Thats kind of dissapointing, I'm not a fan of the GGs, but its sad that lots of people worn be getting awards and stuff. If they cancel the Oscars I will be mad. |

I believe so, yes. There's a lot of things that's being effected by it. |

Aye, weren't the People's Choice Awards effected by it as well? My cousin said something about Queen Latifah being the only one there and having to make up her lines [which were described as "bloody awful" to myself... ![]() I do hope this writer's strike is over soon. It's certainly not effecting anything here, but I do watch the Academy Awards and it will be disappointing if we can't watch them this year. |

I'm getting really tired of the freaking writer's strike. Like others, I only watch the Golden Globes and the Oscars. Grr. |

[quote="Dark, Queen of Angmar"]its sad that lots of people worn be getting awards and stuff.[/quote Well people will still be getting their awards....but I'm sure they'll just be sent to them. Many or most shows in the U.S. are affected by the strike. Let's just hope that the cancellation of these major award ceremonies make the producers squeam so much that they cave in to the writers. *nod nod* |

Some writers deserve to be caved in to----others are questionable... hence Writer's Strike. |

For me personally as a Brit who rarely sees her countrymen and women honoured at American awards cermonies as I believe they should, I am annoyed that if any fellow Brits do win, they won't be able to accept their awards and make a speech. And has anyone heard about the film strike that starts this year? 2009 will be a bad year for films, unless the films that are released are made this year before the strike starts, and are held back so at least there will be something entertaining on the bog screens next year. |

Film strike? That sounds at least 10x worse than the writer's strike which really isn't doing much right now over here. A film strike will affect things everywhere! ![]() |

I was browsing IMDb when I saw the news about the GGs being canceled and didn't quite believe it at first. I'm way more of an Academy Awards person (and I haven't even had THAT much interest in those after the 2004 ceremony, because...oh you all know why ![]() And film strike? ...who would be striking? ![]() |

^ Well, the screenwriters are already striking, as part of the WGA strike, I believe. So no new scripts have been written since November. There's probably going to be a big lull this winter and possibly into next summer of new movies. *sigh* I wish the producers would give the writers the money they deserve... ![]() |

Or maybe that the writers wouldn't demand more money than they deserve ![]() Anyway...that pretty much sucks. It must be so disappointing for the people who won things to not have a ceremony to accept them at. A trophy is all very well but I wouldn't think it's quite the same. I've never watched the Golden Globes (and last time I watched the Oscars was in 2004) but I can certainly imagine the disappointment. |

I think it is film writers who are going to be striking. Just the other month it was the prop people or something on Broadway that striked. I mean, I understand what the writers are saying, films need writers as much as films need stars.... but doesn't that basically work with all manner of people on films? If you lost your sound crew, you're stuck because then people couldn't hear you. If you lost your wardrobe department and you're making a period piece, you're not going to play a 16th century character in jeans. If you're make-up team waves bye-bye, you're have to suck it up that you have a mole the size of Asia on your nose..... What I don't like about all this is the nastiness. I've heard some not nice tales about the writers striking even to those people who are helping them, giving them food while their striking. And this whole thing about picket lines.... if an actress, actor, coffee maker whatever, has to go to work because they are contracted, and failing to work places them in trouble, can the writers not understand that they need to cross the line? I hope they get the money they want, so we all can enjoy your favouite shows etc..... but suppose in two years time they do the same again? Perhaps the bosses don't want to give in, in case that happens. |

I can easily see the Oscars being cancelled. Heck, if they allowed the strike to have continued for so long, so as to postpone so many big hit TV shows, like LOST and 24 etc, why should they strive to settle a deal before what is effectively an award show? The people's awards were sort of cancelled as well, it was a pre-recorded show I believe. |
