Has anyone else seen this? They're making a third sequel to the Mummy series. Unfortunately, I thought they were skidding by with The Mummy Returns but this sequel looks to be a flop. I wouldn't mind more family-friendly movies out there but this is just a cheap way to make money. =/ IMDB: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0859163/ My first concern is the fact that Rachel Weisz did not come back to play Evelyn O'Connell ---- which just means that the film won't fly. I'm sorry but you can't have a Mummy film without Rachel Weisz. They've unfortunately re-casted the role of Evelyn, a Maria Bello. Although I don't know Maria Bello's past roles, I can't help but be biased since Rachel Weisz is not in the role. Other opinions? |

I'll be seeing this purely on the basis that I'm completely in love with Jet Li. It's sad that Rachel isn't returning, Evelyn is an integral part of the stories. So I guess they figured recasting was the way to go. That and I quite like Maria Bello from what I saw of her in A History of Violence with Viggo. She was also in Secret Window with Johnny Depp. That and it's written by Gough and Millar. That's a huge win for me. |

I don't really have any high expectations when it comes to films. I'm easily entertained and if I'm entertained it's good enough for me. I never really cared whether a plot was good enough. If it's an action/adventure/fantasy film I'm bound to like it. I saw the other two films and really liked them so I'll definitely see this one as well. Shame about Rachel though ![]() |

I have always loved the Mummy series. I mean, it was one of the greatest days of my life, when I went on the ride at Universal Studios. XD I'm a total dork when it comes to these movies. And I loved the cartoon series as well, which basically confirms my geek-dom right there. But I too, must admit, that I am quite concerned. I mean, Rachel Weisz was (is) a very important character, and I cannot see how they intend to make the story work without her, even if they did recast Maria Bello in the role. Not to mention Luke Ford is playing Alex O'Connell instead of Freddie Boath.... -sulks miserably- They would never consider making another movie if Brendan Fraser didn't return. But... I still am going to be at the movies, opening night, excited as all heck. Cause as long as they reprise John Hannah as Jonathan Carnahan, I am more then happy! ![]() |

Well I for one am not happy. I am a MASSIVE fan of the Mummy - the day I saw it was the beginning of an obsession of mine that is only rivalled by LOTR - and I even declared for quite a while that it was my favourite film of all time. I have lost count of the amount of times I have watched it, read the making of book and listened to the soundtrack. The Mummy Returns has it's faults, but it was in keeping with the spirit of the previous film so it really couldn't go wrong. There is nothing worse in films than to have a character re-cast. Different actors playing the same character is a definite no-no. ![]() I am highly disturbed that Steven Sommers is not directing - that in itself is a bad thing. He's not the greatest director in the world for sure, but the Mummy films are his and for him not to be involved with the third one, makes me wonder if he doubts the reasoning behind another. And no Arnold Vosloo Mummy? ![]() I am quite disgusted with the orignal cast members (yes, even you John Hannah who was my first swoon worthy actor and who sent me my first autograph) for even agreeing to be in another Mummy film that is so obviously being made for the sake of it and for the money. Having a sequel to the first Mummy was admittedly bound to happen when they realised it was going to make money, but I feel this is completely different as it's not even involving all the characters from the previous films, or indeed the Mummy that started it all. I certainly won't be rushing out to see it anyhow. |

I have the same sentiments with JF about the screenplay having so that Evey had passed away----you can't recast a major part like that, Rachel Weisz is the face and essence of Evey as it was one of her first major roles that brought her into the business. It seems like the only people coming back from the first original films are John Hannah and Brendan Fraiser, and sorry, although they are quite the duo, they cannot hold another Mummy film together like that. |

It's the fact John Hannah is in it, that means I will most probably be watching the film when it comes out on DVD.... I am a sucker for Jonathan.... ![]() I'm not sure about the fact it's now set in the 50's? I am right in saying that? Or is it the 40's? Well anyway, I think the whole "old adventurer teams up with son" probably won't go down to well this year when there is another film with a sort of similar storyline. I'd like to think if Rachel was going to be in it, Sommers would also be involved with the writing and directing, and maybe it would have been set in that part of the world *points towards sand and pyramids* rather than that part *points to matial arts and big walls* |

Apparently Rachel Weisz was interesting in doing it but she had a disagreement over the final screenplay and drew out of the project. That and because she's a working mother now and she can't be traveling to China. |

^ That and the fact I think she was working on other projects at the time. It must be weird to be part of a films series and then for the creative team and cast to change, so things are no longer as they once were. That's why the best sequels keep everything the same. |

![]() . Like in the Rocky movies with Adrienne (an?)... rather then recast... they just got rid of her. Like... maybe they could have had Evy working on a case on the other side of the world or something... something.. anything then recasting!! And I agree with JF about John Hannah... he is definitely swoon-worthy ![]() |

i didn't know they were making another one. i personally think it's not going to do so well...while the 2nd one was good...the first was probably better and on top of that...i totally agree you just can't re-cast a main character. it just doesn't work. they should just leave her out and just have her mentioned or something |

What? That's just stupid. I would have Oded's love child, that's how much I love his character. I might even have Rachel's love child as well... Brendan Fraiser is my hero, but still, I love Oded and Rachel. |

Coincidentally the Mummy II is playing on TV right now---- I still can't get over it. I can't look forward to film with a completely new cast and think it's the same series. |
