I found an updated list of the AFI's Top 100 films, and I wondered how many people have seen. Mark each one you have watched with an [X]. That's all. I have other lists which I'll be posting over the next few days. Oh... fun, but I think I'm gonna have to pass on this one. Just a quick glance at the list tells me that I might have seen maybe 10 or a little more of the movies... Not too impressive, but they are mostly old classic movies which is not really my favorite genre.

What a bunch of overrated films. It's as if people feel obligated to put these films on such a list like this because everybody who's anything "important" feel they ought to be there. @ Ea - Well older films aren't really their one genre.... they're just films... that are older? @ Phoenix - Yep, that is the Raging Bull. The list also detailed the director for each film, so I deleted those but left part of Mr. Scorsese in. @ Eru - I can sort of see what you mean. 48 of those films I haven't seen, so I can't comment whether they are overrated or not. There are quite a few I have seen which I am really surprised are there, because I feel they are overlooked. There are those which crop up a lot - Singin' in the Rain, The Godfather, Citizen Kane, but as they are widely regarded as great films, it only makes sense they would be on a list of greatest films ever. Sometimes I find with lists people don't like the fact there are older films on there. But in this list there are actually only 49 films listed that were made before 1970 - so that's over 50 years of film and just 49 entries, whereas there are 51 entries from 1970-2001.

@ Monty - Nope. I haven't seen a lot of the more mordern stuff on that list. The modern ones I have seen.. aren't on there. I liked The Untouchables anyway. That's a very good list. If you can mix the old with the new, you get the best of both world's. I can't believe My Fair Lady was knocked off the list. It was there in 1997. Crazy that only three musicals are on there! @ Taur - Well it's a start at least. If you like older films, there are some good ones on there you haven't seen yet... and a few which are meh.

Like I said, I plan to, but usually I have to wait for it to turn up on the Turner Classic Movies channel. Which ones do you recommend I keep my eye out for?

Ooh, you are lucky you have that channel. I don't have it, and can only sigh and simper when I read what is on. Well I would recommened these films (although I don't know what genres you like/dislike etc), Citizen Kane (worth watching to see what all the fuss is about. It is technically clever.. although weird camera angles that were pioneering back then are wasted on me Other than that I find it just a good film) Lawrence of Arabia Vertigo The Searchers Sunset Boulevard (I like films that look at the movie industry and what it is like. And this is one of them about a star that has faded) The General It's a Wonderful Life (will make you feel all warm amd fuzzy inside) Some Like It Hot The Grapes of Wrath High Noon Double Indemnity The Maltese Falcon The Bridge on the River Kwai The Best Years of Our Lives The Treasure of the Sierra Madre The Philadelphia Story (Cary Grant, James Stewart and Katharine Hepburn. 'Nuff said. ) Rear Window North by Northwest The African Queen (Humphrey Bogart and Katharine Hepburn on a small boat and him a drinker and her a religious spinster?! One of my favourites) The Apartment 12 Angry Men (possibly one of the best films ever to be set in one room and just be about 12 men talking ) Yankee Doodle Dandy (worth it to see James Cagney dance and sing. Even gives Fred Astaire a run for his money) Ben-Hur They are just what I would look out for. If you like a certain actor (for example, James Stewart, he's on that list quite a lot, along with Humphrey Bogart) then that might be another reason why you may wish to watch some of those films.

There were a lot of non-top 100 material films on there, in my opinion. For instance, I enjoyed A Night at the Opera but something like Fiddler on the Roof should have been in it's place. Taur: I'd definitely recommend Butch Cassidy and All the President's Men. Butch Cassidy is a great comedic western (with Paul Newman <3) and All the President's Men is about the Watergate scandal. Though that may be just me who loves that kind of stuff.

Actually, as I as editing the list I was like "Waaah?! why has that been pushed off?!" because it was a list showing the 1997 100 Movies and then the revised version for 2007. And a lot of films that were pushed off should have stayed on. Although FOTR is the only film in the 21st century to be added, so that's nice.
