huh, that's... something else. Although that video only had, what, 5 or 7 or so of the Disney movies represented in it? So maybe they only did that for a few of them. *shrugs* seriously, that's really interesting... and I'm sure it was a good way to conserve time while making all their different movies. heck, I don't care one way or the other. Their movies are all different enough to pass even if they traced some of the scenes to save time. :P It's just weird that no one has really noticed that til now. lol

I think that is awesome. I would so do that if I was a big company just to see if people would catch on.

Old news. I realised this many years ago. Well, I say many years ago I mean about 2 years ago, when I was going through my "Must watch every single Disney classic film" phrase.
Just another thing to add to the "evils" of Disney :eyeroll:

Wow, someone has no life. To actually put that together... tsk.

Interesting how really only 4-5 films were compared and how they all come from the same era of Disney. And how some of the comparisons are based on character similarity, such as Baloo and Little John (which everyone knows and no one condemns Disney for) as well as Sir Hiss and Kaa.

And to be honest, some of them were clutching at straws. Like a female character dancing around animals/dwarfs etc. So that can never be seen again? And the number of characters and positions changed, so like I said; clutching at straws.

The identical scenes. Who really cares? I cannot even begin to imagine how you make an animated film, so if a well animated scene can be re-used, I don't think it's a problem. Really. It's not like every line, every scene, every character, every phrase is being copied from one film to the next. It's not the remake of Psycho. They are all unique, no matter if 5 of them contain princesses or 3 of them have talking animals etc.

And the whole ending of Beauty and the Beast, I believe was a homage to Sleeping Beauty, not a copy.

But other than that.... :teehee: .. thank you for posting this Ellie, I needed a good ol' rant to put me in a good mood. :D

As an artist...I can totally understand the why.

Imagine having to draw every single bloody frame of a movie, and keeping all the characters on model and looking perfect and fluid. It's not easy. Well, they have computers now, which are probably a BIG help, but some of those movies were from before they utilized computers like that.

Also, as others have pointed out:
--They were all from the same era
--It was only a few movies
--The movies are different enough in mood, characters, lines, musical sequences etc. so that they can get away with a "template".

And templates honestly aren't bad, nor do they make the artist lazy. I myself use the same "template" for similar poses. It's the character, mood, and context that makes a piece of art--or an animated sequence.
I'm not biased. I may be an animated movies geek, but I'm not biased.

And let's face it, when these films original came out, you saw them once in the cinema and that was it. No videos, no DVD's. Maybe a TV showing years later if you are lucky. So I doubt people back then would have been thinking "you know, 5 years ago a character stood in the same position and scratched his chin...."

I agree with Esteleth and JF, although it was fun to see them put back to back and compared like that. Even so, I would forgive them; they don't make animated films like that anymore.

That was my first thought.

I agree with everything JF and Esteleth said also. Lack of technology, and keep in mind the same animators may have worked on a number of those films or people who worked with or under the original people. It's possible. And I also thing JF is right about the homage to Sleeping Beauty in BatB-I think I heard that somewhere too. Disney seems to have gone through a small homage stage...

That whole thing was kind of like pointing out that disney makes allusions to other disney movies within their movies. Like did you know Sebastian is in Aladdin? :-D Or the supposed subtle, bad, adult messages in the movies. which I personally don't believe are there...

Very interesting.

But come on, you'd have to watch films over and over again to catch that... or at least watch with a very discerning eye.

I don't think it's bad, I think it's great! It's kind of like little Easter Eggs for all the people that watch a ton of Disney Movies!

It certainly shows how unattentive most of us are. But whoever made that video obviously didn't know what to do with their life. I don't think many people care that they used the same templates, though. I, for one, don't mind in the least.

I think this is basically awesome. I'm all for anything that increases efficiency, personally. I mean, think about how much longer it would have taken to make each of these movies if they'd had to make every single slide completely from scratch.

Plus, I've always been a fan of the silly Disney choreography and ridiculous chase scenes, so anything that gives me more of what I want is definitely cool. :teehee:
