Anyone else seen it and have thoughts?
SPOILERS! (highlight to read)
I really thought I'd like it (I WANTED to like it) up until the end. Then the whole "Well, you proved your love, you can go about your merry way now, kthxbai" ending made me want to throw something (in fact, I was quite vocal about my disapproval in the theater...haha
). I wanted them to do something MORE, something more drastic. I wanted them to decide that they didn't want to live if they couldn't be together, and jump off the building together, and have that break the system, or...SOMETHING. *sputter* Okay, I'm okay now...I'm okay...
Disappointing.
I actually heard that they reshot the ending after it didn't test well with audiences, but I haven't heard what the original ending WAS, other than that it included a scene with a female Chairwoman. It does make sense that the ending was reshot, though, because the actors didn't seem very into it and looked a wee bit confused. As for the female Chairwoman, I was really excited to spot Jennifer Ehle as the bartender in the pub (hey, she's hard to recognize ten years later without her Elizabeth Bennet wig) and hoped she'd have a bigger role, but it seemed like just a cameo. Maybe she was originally cast as the female Chairwoman but her scene was completely cut due to the ending change? Possibly?
I think my other problem was that Emily Blunt was a little too much the stereotypical dreamboat free-floating indie girl for my taste. And I know you're supposed to sympathize with Matt Damon and what he's going through, but from her perspective, he's just acting like a self-absorbed jerk, and the fact that she goes with him so readily at the end makes her seem like she almost likes the emotional abuse. I felt sorry for the fiance

Anyway, those are my thoughts/gripes. Anyone else?
