I'm one of those irritating people who suddenly develop interest in a movie just because it has actors they know, and the new version of The Three Musketeers is one of those I mean...it has Matthew Macfadyen AND Orlando Bloom in the same film! So much awesomeness! So many new ways to play the connect-the-actors game! And Orli gets to be a villain AND have an outlandish hairdo!
Oh my! Matthew MacFayden is SO cute in that trailer! I must say that I was very excited for this movie as soon as I heard that they were going to shoot a new Three Musketeers movie. (I loved the Disney version very very much ) But I'm kind of disappointed by the trailer. It seems that they focus alot on the special effects of the movie (of which I now already think they look fake). I think that too much special effects make a movie incredible.. I thought to have read somewhere that they would focus more on the love affair between the Queen and the Duke of Buckingham, which is very nice.
So for now I'm really sure about it anymore.. I do love the cast though! Hurray for Orli and Darcy!

Also just judging by the trailer, it doesn't look like it's going to be particularly deep or edgy or anything - sort of PotC goes from pirates to musketeers and the Caribbean to France - but it does look like good fun. Plus, I can't say I'm particularly attached to the book I AM A TERRIBLE PERSON. Actually, I just can't remember a lot of it at this point...so I can't get upset when I don't remember if something was in the original story or not.
I shall giggle profusely at Matthew Macfadyen if I see it, though. Darcy goes musketeering! How much more fantastic can you get?
Eru, I didn't know Charlie Sheen was in a version of The Three Musketeers! Who did he play? Was he winning even back then?
Charlie Sheen played Aramis. You haven't seen the 1993 Disney version?! It's so much fun. Chris O'Donnell is adorable as D'Artagnan, Tim Curry is deliciously evil as the Cardinal, Rebecca De Mornay is perfect as Milady de Winter and Oliver Platt is hilariously epic as Porthos!

I was thinking about watching it for Matthew Macfayden, and I didn't even realize Orlando was in it! I'll probably see it eventually, then. I agree, the trailer does look nauseously special-effect heavy, but then they usually play up those sorts of things in trailers. I don't remember the book as being particularly deep, anyway, so I don't think can butcher it or anything.

YES! That's exactly what I thought.. I know it will probably fun to watch, but I also hope they will keep it somewhat historically accurate and over-the-top special effects doesn't always stand for plausibility. But it will still be good fun to watch though..

I love that version SO much as well! I think, although the plot does deviate a good deal from the book, that it was a very good film with an exciting plot, nice actions, and good character portrayals! D'Artagnan is as rash as he's in the books, and Porthos is really funny and somewhow don't think that anyone could ever beat Tim Curry's performance of Richelieu. He's just evil incarnated. And to be very honest, I did think that Charlie Sheen did a good job on portraying Aramis; he still had potential back then.

I don't think the book was very complex, more subplots were just being covered.

I seriously cannot wait for this film- Anything with Christoph Waltz in is bound to be amazing... and well It would just be dishonourable NOT to see a film with Orlando Bloom in... especially when he's playing a bad guy and especially when he has snazzy bouffant hair
...You know I feel sorry for Christoph Waltz. After Inglourious Basterds, I think he feels like he needs to make up for it with films like The Green Hornet and Water for Elephants. That or there is some cosmic rule where an Academy Award winning actor or actress is obligated to star in crappy movies. Thank god, there's another Tarantino movie he's going to be in.
That aside, I can't see this being anything other than an action schluk that violates the original material. After all this is by Paul W.S. Anderson, the magnificent directors who brought such classics like Mortal Kombat, the Resident Evil series, Alien vs Predator, and Death Race. I'm rather perplexed Orlando Bloom decided to return after spending some time doing stage work to this movie but...okay! I want to see how many action poses and wooden face shots we can churn from him.
Oh god, I just found out. The main lead is Logan Lerman, the little pipsqueak from Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief. Oh god.....
