I was sick yesterday so I didn't go to work. With the cold meds, I didn't do much, so I went to my DVD library and pulled out a series that I havn't watched since the 1990's sometime, and before that, I watched it when it aired in the 1970's. It is the BBC production I Claudius. I used the old Roman spelling as they had not yet started using the 'U' until many years later.
I watched it through to the death of Augustus Ceaser, and A couple observations I made is I think Peter Jackson got the whole scene of Bilbo's messy filing of his maps and papers directly from this show. And I could see Ian Holm may have channeled Dereck Jacobi in his fumbling around looking for the ring.
Anyway, even after 40 years, the acting and scenes still hold up well!

Hm... Is that a good thing or a bad thing that PJ seems to have taken from that scene and Ian's act somewhat of conspiring with the plot?

I remember watching it when it was first shown, and enjoying it very much; especially Derek Jacobi's performance as Claudius.
