I should probably have posted in the LotR-actors' movies-forum but it's so deserted over there.
Did anyone see it? Does anyone have an opinion on it?
It opens here tomorrow and I want to see it.
I thought it would be too gory, eww'y and violent for me and I'm such a girl... but it's only got an R-rating in the US and from what I've read it doesn't sound that bad. In fact, the worst thing might be the depressing state of humanity... but I can live with that.. as long as it's not gory!

I read the plot and I've seen the trailer and I must say the role of the father is typical a Viggo-role. I don't know why but just the part that a father who has to survive the wild, with the world being at an end,to get his son to safety.. it just suits him.
I read that he did (again) some extensive preparation for the role by eating crickets and stuff, and he lost alot of weight along the way. So I definately want to see this movie, only because of Viggo's talent and presence in the movie eventhough it's not a real feel-good movie.
When you've seen it, you should tell what you thought of it Eä.

We watched this movie on Christmas Day... (bad choice on our part )
well, it was a very touching movie in some ways (like a lone dad taking care of his son no matter what and those types of themes)... well acted, interesting idea for a story, ect. Viggo did a good job. BUT it was... brutal. Like, not the whole thing through but there were scenes (one in particular) where I had to look away. It was just... wow, it was pretty bloody and very depressing. The whole cannibal stuff was.... awful.
Also, it was a very, very long movie. This might just be me but it seemed like whenever it was about ready to end (or at least should have ended) the plot began to pick up all over again. In that way it was confusing and I was getting impatient for it to just end already.

I've seen No Country for Old Men and also read the book plus another book by Cormac MacCarthy and I had this idea that The Road was about... something else altogether... I dunno why... Then I read about it, heard about and saw the trailer... and now I'm confused and intrigued...
Will:: Of course, Viggo is the greatest! By the way, I heard this is going to be his last movie...
I will come back and share if I end up seeing the movie.
PD:: Thanks for posting. Hmm... what kind of bloody are we talking about... ?
Like I watched Slumdog Millionaire and there is a particularly ... bloody scene where a boy is blinded. I hated that scene and had to look away but since the rest of the movie was nice it was ok. Some kind of violence I can stand and some is too much, it depends on the story and how they show it...

I want to see it, too. It's already left theaters where I am, but I'll rent it when it comes out on DVD. I also do terribly with gore, so I figure at home I can squirm and look away and generally freak out as much as I need to at home. They say Viggo might get nominated for an Oscars for his performance! I do hope so, and that he wins, of course!

I really want to see The Roads. The story itself interests me and it just looks creeply amazing. Viggo's eyes in this movie, my goodness.
I sure hope Viggo is nominated for the Oscars! He will have my support!

Ea, ummm, let me see if I can remember. Well, this is sorta spoilerish but there was one scene where the snow is sorta covered in blood and we realize people are butchering other people and eating them. In the same scene we see a woman and child running away from people who are actually hunting them down to eat them. I believe there are even bones and other body parts on the ground... and they showed the guts of a man after people had gutted, cooked and eaten him. There's a particularly gruesome scene in the cellar of a cannibal's house where their prisoners/food is kept. I'm pretty much talking bloodiness and horrible scenes coming and going throughout the movie.
The story was very interesting... just very violent.

Thanks PD. It might sound wierd but I don't mind watching butchering of dead people and I don't mind blood and bones. What I can't stand is torture and violence against living people... because I can't distract my thoughts from the emotional fact that they suffer terribly and it makes me sick.

Well, it does fit under Movies & TV but I'm also aware that technically the topic might fit better in the Actor's Movies. Like I said, I posted here because this is currently the most active movie forum, but since I've gotten some nice replies and useful comments to my inquiry, do move it if you feel like.

I sneaked a peek on a download site and I enjoyed the movie.
Viggo did a great job, as he quite often does!
and even though the plot was a bit thin, the concept worked.
It comes off as a mellower version of, `what would the world be like if...?´
It had some gore, but much less than other `aftermath´ movies. (i.e. Resident Evil)
Worth watching

I've finally seen it!!!
And yes I agree that it was rather slow-paced and quite depressing. But for some reason I couldn't find it completely believeable.. There were so many open questions about the boy.. like he knew a lot of things but he had never seen the ocean.. where had they been all the time? When did they start travelling? If the apocalypse happened like.. ten years ago, how did they survive until then?
And the endning.. any thoughts on the ending? It was almost too good to be true...

I just skimmed through the posts, but has anyone read the book? I read it about a year ago for an American Lit class and enjoyed it immensely. I'm a huge fan of dystopian lit. The movie is rather slow paced though, and the flashbacks were a bit odd, but I suppose I enjoyed the visualisation of it.

I finally saw the movie. What I loved about it was the chemistry between the father and the son. Viggo and Kodi were both absolutely wonderful! Their love and friendship was so tangible.. just marvelous.
The general story on the other hand, I thought to be a bit tedious.. very much of the same.
But really, I just hated the moment SPOILERwhen Viggo died./Spoiler It was just so sad.. I had hoped for a happy ending (although I already realised from the beginning of the movie there would be none). Not really a feel good movie.

That's what most of the complaints circled around when the movie first came out, Will. Critics claimed that there just wasn't enough hope in the ending. I disagree thoroughly. If anyone has read the book then you'll know that there is a fair amount of hope for the future in the end.
