I read Seamus Heaney's version of Beowulf this year for British Literature and loved it! I had read that Tolkien had drawn heavily from Beowulf, and now I see why. Really good book, but you'll only love it if you like Old English style poetry. It's really a different style... focuses on alliteration more than rhyme. Which was cool.

yeah, I read it and enjoyed it - I'm not sure what version it was, but it certainly wasn't "modernized" so to speak.
I read it for my History class.

It's a great book.

I read Seamus Heaney's version quite a few years ago and I quite enjoyed it. This year in English Language we studied bits of it in Old English which were very hard to make out what was being said.

I remember that the odd bit in Heaney's version annoyed me, vaguely that there was some totally inappropriate modern wording in it. And I also have three movie versions.
