He/She must also be able to love. Love is extremely powerful in books. Yeah...

I'm drawn to the characters that aren't necessarily evil, but for some reason don't have it within them to love. Most likely distrustful and unrevealing, with a darker background than what lies on the surface. Angsty, consumed by vengeance/hatred, inner turmoil... as long as they don't reveal it on the surface. In my opinion, those characters are the ones with more dimension and complexity.

Pride is also another factor. The characters I create, as well as the characters I like in books, usually have some wall of pride around them.

muahahaha! they got consumed by me!
okay... back to topic...
yea, the "chosen one" is quite annoying, but sometimes its fun to have them around... the best thing is if they fell flat on their faces and... oo... gotta make that happen in my story... but i don't have a chosen one... hm so i'll make that my main charrie. (who is also my favvie..)

and... well all of us have different opinions... and ... no one's chosen strictly evil yet! that might be because a lot of evil "strictly" evil charries, are usually yerks. hm...

Well, I'm a bit of an odd person when it comes to picking book favorites.
I like those who are either the good guys and nobody else in the book will have anything to do with them or bad guys. I don't usal like the goody two shoes though when they have like a click or something. Because they can't realy have it all that bad if they have so many truely good freinds. I think that they just want to whine poor me all the time. Then they allready aren't my favorite anyway and it starts to bug me that they cry about this, that, and the other when I read about my favorite character who realy has it rough and they aren't crying. I go for the goody two shoes who are all alone or bad guys who realy just got messed up. Though actually I currently seem to be going through a phase where I'm more into the bad guys. I also realy like the characters who aren't realy bad but want very badly to be bad (because of family issues or something like that). :teehee: The problem is when I strating liking those characters then I want them to turn good so they can have something good and that would defeat the entire purpose. :teehee: (Laugh) I'm pretty much all over the place when it comes to picking book favorites. Uh, I guess I like either a goody two shoes who realy has Nothing or a bad guy who I can connect with beacuse they just happened to get on the wrong side of the tracks.
I as many others have said detest the "chosen ones". They drive me insane. Plus once they're told tha they're the "chosen one" they think that they're all that and seem to look down upon many other characters. :explode: At least from the chosens that I've read about.
Whoa, I don't think that anything in that post made any sense...at all. Sorry. I suppose I was a bit insane before reading about any chosen ones. :psycho: :teehee:

The main traits I look for are:
Honesty
Kindness
Humility
Faithfulness
Patience

You could almost say that Sam is a character I really look up to and like because of his character traits.

I'd have to say that Han Solo and Mat Cauthon pretty much embody my favorite traits. They change. They go through bad experiences. You are a bit wary of them at first because they aren't goody-goody. But they are good, pretty honest (ok, sometimes not quite), able to not be the star or hero for a while, they fight for the cause that they believe in. True, at the beginning it may be only out of duty or consience. But in time they realize that they care for the cause.

I have to have character development. I do like Harry Potter, but not as much as other characters in the books. He is essentially good from point A to point B. The last few books have gotten better as he has gone through rough times and overcome them. Same with Murtagh. He is my favorite character from Eragon because he overcame so much, he had a dark side and growth. I NEED character development for my favorite character.

Hmmm. Good question. My fave would have to be practically embodied in Will Turner - honourable, honest, loves passionately and will do anything for the one he loves. He also knows what the right thing is to do and does it, only resorting to piracy when it comes to extreme measures. I really do love him.

That's exactly my kind of character! I luffles Will! I like how he acts first, and then he thinks. :D And as a bonus, he's hot! :P

I don't exactly have a set of traits, but these are the main ones I like:
Bravery
The ability to love (Davy Jones)
Differentness

Well, I love it when characters have more to them than meets the eye and I love it when they are just slightly evil. :P

I tend to like female characters more than male characters (not in a creepy way!), but then again some of my very favorites are males. I like smart characters, but not really like know-it-alls or whatever, and if they like to read they are automatically cool in my book (no pun intended, haha). Loving animals is a plus, and I don't like it if they're complete goodie-goodies but they do have to have morals and stick to them. I usually tend to become attatched to characters who are like me (kind of shy and self-concious) but not always. Warrior-type girls who aren't all "Eep a spider!" or whatever are especially awesome, like Arya from the Inheritance Trilogy and Eowyn.
