eh it's a question that makes me think each time i'm asked it. sooo.....
they're both a part of my life. I'm also very obsessed with both  and couldn't live without 'em. But what makes LotR and HP series so special, so great?
At the first look, you say, "OK, i'm really bored let's read a book. This one looks ... err, interesting. Let's give it a try." And then you take a book. I mean, the frontpages are nothing special but insides.... yummy! Then you strat reading it... You become unstoppable. And it's the story that makes you interested. Not the other people's opinion or anything. Only the story. But - why??? I think it's because of the people, magic and action (or fantasy). At least it was this way with me... 
Then you become obssesed. It's the greatest thing on this world. But you still dont know, why.
OK, enough blabbering. Can't decide which is better. lol

Weell I voted for LotR (as you knew I would) I used to be the biggest HP fan a few years ago, that is, till lotr came onto the scene. At first they were both pretty great for me, but then lotr slowly edged its way up into obsessiveness and HP went down to just a like. It's just not the same.

What I don't get is when people send angry letters to Harry Potter sites, saying that LotR is so much better and HP sucks...I don't understand why your going to a Harry Potter site if you hate it so much

I voted LotR. As much as I like Harry Potter, I find that you cant really compare the two; Lord of the Rings is the best book written this century, while HP is probably only one of the better books written this decade.
I do, however, appreciate what it is doing for reading in the current generation. I know people who wouldn't have picked up a book normally, but love HP. But then I also know lots more people who have read LotR, all thanks to the movies.

umm....lemme think about that.................LORD OF THE RINGS!!!
LotR has and always will be the #1 fantasy!!! Other fantasy books may be good, but LotR is still on top! It's like...the father of all good modern fantasy literature....

This is a good topic, and that thread has a lot of good arguments. We just don't need any more threads on this board that beat this topic into the ground even more than it already has been.

I voted for Harry Potter, but it was a hard choice, I like both. I used to be really obsessed with LotR until a few moths ago, when Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire came out but, I like them both in different ways.

I think HP is a much better book, Lotr is so boring. Its just hobbits walking and singing and walking and singing, and hey! lets walk somemore. *yawns* Just talking about it makes me tired.
