I'd recommend all books by Robin Hobb, starting with the Farseer Trilogy. I read those when I was 13 years old, and after reading LOTR they provide nice and easy reading  I'm reading A Casual Vacancy by J.K. Rowling. So far I'm not impressed, but I've only read about 50 pages. _________________

I started reading it for the same reason, and it's nothing like Harry Potter so you're kind of forced to take it as a separate thing anyway Sadly it still hasn't captured me, so I've also started reading Citadel by Kate Mosse. _________________

Re-inspired to read Rowling, I'm planning to read all Harry Potter books over Christmas break, so I've just picked up Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone.
