but snape really obviously did the avada kedavra, which is unreversable. and even fawkes the phoenix knew that dumbledore was dead. he wouldnt be able to fake it either, because they can tell whether or not hes really dead.

Dude, I did that last summer!!!! It was AWESOME!!! Except I was at Barnes and Noble.
And about Dumbledore dying...why does everyone think he's alive?! ACK! And everyone was sad and crying and everything! I've said it before, but I was relieved when he died. The saddest part of that was the funeral....I don't really know why. Not because he was dead, but it reminded me of Cedric. *sigh* And Sirius....*takes a moment of silence* But, I guess if you guys need Dumbledore to be alive....I'll let your imaginations run wild.
Well, isn't she supposed to write like an 8th book to sum everything up and explain a lot? But that'd be funny if there were more books.
But who says Voldemort will live if Harry dies? I say they're going to die killing eachother....I wonder how she'd end it though. Like, just end it right there? "There was a flash of green light and then.........." Ha ha ha. Weird. But I'll keep saying this, I'll burn my books (well, maybe not that drastic) if she keeps Harry alive. Or maybe it'll just be an eternal fight between the two. Who knows...maybe Neville will just go crazy and take over the world.
EDIT: Okay, I just realized how harsh I may have sounded. I didn't mean to. Because you could be right...but it's just my opinion that he's gone for good...just like Sirius (because in that case, she actually said he's dead ... Sirius, I mean). So, sorry if I sounded a little harsh...

Yay! Yay! Yay! Okay, I have just come up wtih solid semi-solid proof supporting the whole "Snape is still good" theory. Most of super, super die hard HP fans will have probably already figured all this out, but I am quite pround of myself and I'd like to share it.
Sorry if my explanation is a tad confusing...
Okay... *deep breath*
Snape takes the Unbreakable Vow saying that he will do whatever he can to help Malfoy murder Dumbledore, even if he has to kill Dumbledore himself. [All of you know this of course.]
Later, Hagrid mentions to Harry that Snape and Dumbledore were arguing and that it sounded like Snape didn't want to do something, but Dumbledore told him it had to be done.
Here I will assume that Snape told Dumbledore about the Unbreakable Vow, and what Malfoy must do. I also assume that they both know that Malfoy will not go through with it and that Snape may end up killing Dumbledore instead.
Snape does not wish to do this but Dumbledore knows it must be done.
In the end, when Snape is about to kill Dumbledore, he [Dumbledoree] sees Snape hesitating, and he says "Please Severus." He is not pleading for his life, he just wants Snape to do it.
So, Snape was practically acting on Dumbledore's orders.
*is proud of herself*
Feel free to contradict me but this is what I believe!

Thats great! Dumbledore would never let any of the children die, even if they were death eaters!

Yes, that's a very good theory.. and I hope it's right!! Even if Dumbledore is dead, it would be of some comfort to at least know that Snape is not evil....

You know, I think Rowling does a lot of these sorts of things...puts the characters in these kind of conditons...the spontaneous and horrible deaths (*mourns Sirius*) to really point out that that's real life. Those kind of things actually happen and you can't just have a "...happily ever after" ending. One, because that sucks, and two, WHO has a "happily ever after" ending EVER in real life?! And as harsh as this may sound, I personally think she's doing this to force people (not just children) to face the inevitable. Hmmm....

Yes, that's a very good point. She doesn't the book to just have a "fairy tale" sort of feeling to it, but wants some sadness and hardship in it too. Otherwise it wouldn't feel so real, and it wouldn't be so meaningful. Even if it does mean.. *gulp, whispers* Sirius dying.... *sob*

Yeah, I'd be very annoyed of Harry lived at the end, it would make it far to fairy tale ish if he did.

Thank you Rowan, I agree 100%. That would be the brilliant end to the HP legacy. Like Frodo sailing across the sea to the Undying lands, or all the Pevensies dying to come to the real Narnia, it has to be done. All great books leave behind the legacy of loss, so you mourn and yet are glad at the same time.
I personally hope that the twist that, to kill Voldemort, Harry must die in sacrifice. Yay!
And whoever said the whole Snape thing (Larael I believe) totally changed my view of him. I still think he's conniving and deserves to persih, but he may not be so evil as I thought.

Ack!!! I've been saying that all along!!! But then I had a thought today, what if he lived, and everyone else died? I mean, like mass murders! Like an all out war among everyone....or not. OR, to kill my beloved Voldemort...he'd have to sacrifice everyone...or eveyone he loves/cares about...? Hmmm.....No, I like him dying.

I would too, but I don't get how it will work. The propecy says that only one can live, and Voldermort can't survive! Hoever much I want it to be non fairytaleish, everything still needs to be sorted out.
