Here's mine:
No absolutely goodie goodie
Has overcome difficult tasks to reach goal or power
has to be powerful, but not born with it
has to be not dumb.
HAS to be not a dumb ANTAGONIST <--boy that would suck)
and it's usually a boy/male.

:P
what's your trait-scope?

Hmmm. Good question. My fave would have to be practically embodied in Will Turner - honourable, honest, loves passionately and will do anything for the one he loves. He also knows what the right thing is to do and does it, only resorting to piracy when it comes to extreme measures. I really do love him.

Hmmm...
-Not completely selfless or perfect, must be doing stuff for own good too, cos otherwise they're not human, and I can't relate to them
-I do love a dark background or secret
-Not stupid, aka like Eragon, who's v. good at the whole lashy sword, but completely brainless.
-NO CHOSEN ONES. God that bugs me so much!

don't blame me... i just had a math test...

yes. "Not stupid, aka like Eragon, who's v. good at the whole lashy sword, but completely brainless"

Powerful wizards and enigmatic swordsman. :punk: my favorite characters aren't necessarily evil, though most lean towards the evil side. I can identify most with proud characters who have some inner turmoil but don't like to display weakness. I LOATHE weak characters.

usually the opposite of what my favorite characters tend to be :P but sometimes that nice goody goody character comes along and I end up liking him anyway.

I like cunning in my favourite characters. Even if the character isn't strong in body if they are strong in mind at least their thoughts will be interesting. I really don't like all the "chosen one" characters. They seem to be popping up everywhere and are getting close to becoming Mary Sues and Marty Sams. A dark side is necessary in a character too. It shows they're strengths and weaknesses which will be important when overcoming evil. He/She must also be able to love. Love is extremely powerful in books. Yeah...

Well, an example of mine is Eowyn. I love good guys. Period. I like charatcers who are brave, fight for what they believe in, can actually fight and all and such the like. I dont really like charatcer who are a perfect-know-it-all.

... bbut if they're all good and perfect all the time... won't that make them perfect?

I like characters who are always ready to sacrifice themselves for others, but only because they feel it is their 'duty,' and their conscience would bug them very much if they didn't. Characters like Mat Cauthon....selfless (for his friends), but because he feels it's his duty to make sure his friends come out alright.

i usually like ambitious charries...

I'm drawn to the characters that aren't necessarily evil, but for some reason don't have it within them to love. Most likely distrustful and unrevealing, with a darker background than what lies on the surface. Angsty, consumed by vengeance/hatred, inner turmoil... as long as they don't reveal it on the surface. In my opinion, those characters are the ones with more dimension and complexity.

Pride is also another factor. The characters I create, as well as the characters I like in books, usually have some wall of pride around them.

YES! I have this whole rant about how fantasy today is all about CHOSEN ONES. There's about [bangs fingers on number pad] 563677623568543 CHOSEN ONES. THERE ARE JUST OCEANS OF CHOSEN PEOPLE. Can't we have the UNCHOSEN one because there are so many chosen people they're not special AT ALL. [Caps lock madness ending...]

I'm sorry, but I don't like Dragon Riders either. I'm more of a fairy tale person than a fantasy. I think the difference is fantasy characters ride their dragons and the fairy tale ones slay them.

Yeah, I love the sidekick characters or the characters that aren't the main characters, but help out in their own way, like Pippin or Ron Weasley.
