I've recently, since the beginning of semester, taken an interest in history. I love learning about history, it's so amazing. Does anyone else like reading history books? And if so, any suggestions?

I love history books!
Any reading suggestions? I love Western Civilizations for an actual history book... but for historical fiction - GO DOUGLAS BOND!

*raises hand* Guilty. I have slowly turned into a history geek. I've been known to read my history text book in study hall because I had nothing better to do, and it was fun.
I don't have any recommendations, but usually bookstores or libraries have a historical section, and you can find stuff by skimming through the books there usually.

Oh, I luuuuuv history! It's been my favorite subject in school since I was little. I can't recall the author's of any of my favorite history books at the moment. I was reading one at the library the other day about medievel times and it was really good... I wish I could remember the author's name. But anyways, I love anything about Irish history and the Rennaissance (sp?) and medieval times.

yay! another history geek. as an author of historical fiction, i loooove karen cushman.
jane yolen has also written some good ones.
but karen cushman has a really good one called Catherine, Called Birdy. it's like a journal of a medieval country knight's daughter, and her determination not to marry who her father wants her to marry. but here, i'm telling the whole story, so i'll just let you find out the rest!

I've currently reading. "Hitler Youth: Growing up in Hitler's Shadow" by Susan Campbell Bartoletti.
It's a very interesting read, very disturbing, very twisted. I cannot imagine how wrong these children are growing up being so influenced by a world power like HITLER.

Depending on which sort of history books you mean...
History textbooks are a crime against humanity. History is my favorite subject, but only when I reject textbooks and actually live it. Modern schools butcher the material.
Historical Fiction, however, is great stuff.

I love history, I just don't like most History Textbooks. I look things up online, I read books about various events <= Not textbooks! and I do. occasionally (well, more than occasionally). read. historical fiction. But there's nothing wrong with that--it's very interesting.

I looove history. I'm majoring in it at my university. Terry Jones writes really good historical books, that are non-fiction but they read really well. And if you're into fiction that's based on history Robert Harris is amazing. His book the Fatherland is one of my favourite books.

I haven't read any of those authors... But I absolutely looove Douglas Bond's books. Especially the Crown and Covenant series and Hostage Lands.

History is my favorite subject - I absolutely love it. I don't really read too much about history outside of school (no excuse but laziness) but my history teacher's really good. I think I'll continue it into University.
This thread has inspired me to get my hands on some history books. I shall be reading everyone's suggestions
