Wich do you prefer. And has anyone read the new one? I just finished it last night. :disgust: :disgust: :disgust: SICK! Thats what I call it. But I am not going to give it away.

I thought the first 3 were ok. My fav was the 4th. At least up untill the end. I didnt like the 5th that much. She went from Kiddy books to dark and dagerous. She is treading on unsafe grounds as far as I am concerned. The last book had a few good things tho. I still love LOTr much more tho.

I have nothing against Harry Potter, but I love LotR - the books and the movies - very very very much!!! It's outstanding!!

GO LORD OF THE RINGS!!!!

i like em both the same. however, i tend to like the lotr movies better than the harry potter movies and the harry potter books better than the lotr movies. but i like them all about the same. but if jk rowling keeps making me angry with her books, ill change sides. :-D

I like both though I'm more into LOTR. They books are way better than the movies. Hopefully my opinion stays the same after reading the sixth. Though it will be a while before I get it.

It's unfair to compare Harry Potter to Lord of the Rings since they're respected for different things. It's also unfair since this is specifically a Lord of the Rings forum and that many people join the forum because of Lord of the Rings and sometimes they judge Harry Potter to be inferior.

I like LOTR, but Im not really into Harry potter beause its not me and Im sad that Sirius dies. I love history and mythology, not so much into mystrey and sports, or the witchcraft in there and I don't really think its inferior, you have to have a reason why you don't like it...

I said both the same, but I personally don't think it's comparing apples and apples. The have similar themes, such as the battle of good versus evil but are written for a difference audience. Harry Potter is about teenagers, essentially, and Lord of the Rings is about races that certainly wouldn't call 100 years of age really old.

I don't mind that the Harry Potter books are becoming darker. I don't like it, but it's inevitable and to try to deny that would be weak, especially as it would probably be just a move to please the masses. I think I'm a bit more into LOTR than HP, but I ultimately can't choose one over the other.
