Anyone ever read these books? I've read all the books that are out so far, and I LOVE them!! Lemony Snicket is such a unique writer, and he taught me some excellent vocabulary words at that. It's where I first saw the word "decapitation", from Book#8, the Hostile Hospital. Hehe. Anyone else out there read the series? (or at least seen the movie?)

Ooooo I love these books! :-D I really like the style of writing. And yes, I have seen the movie, and it is agonizingly stressful. :bones:

Oh yay! I'm so glad someone made a thread for these books! I LOVE them! *dances around* They are SO cool! Lemony Snicket is one of the greatest writers ever! (I mean come on! If the guy has a pen name like that, how couldn't he be the greatest!) Anyways . . . I love the vocab too! And, as much as it's a "children's" series, there are always things that he writes that only "adults" could probably understand and that's what makes it so awesome! It is always SO stressful, and dark, but in a humourous way, which is why I think they're so popular ("which here means . . .").

About the movie. When I heard about it, I was SO bummed. Just really ticked off. 3 movies in 1?! What?! Anyways. I saw it, with my little cousin, and I actually kind of enjoyed it. I believe they got the essence of it in there, and Jim Carrey was pretty awesome (as usual). I'm still a fan of the books much more though.

Oh, I will ALWAYS be for the books over the movie. The movie was all right, but I'm a little disappointed that they chose Jim Carrey (erm...however you spell it) for Count Olaf, and I'm disappointed that Klause didn't have his glasses and that Violet looked so...Chinese...and that Sunny wasn't an infant! And it was indeed painful to see three books squashed in one. There is a TON of good stuff they left out in the process of doing that! But anyway... YES, I love this series, and high-fives to Mevie for making this thread! :bye2:

And death to Carmelita Spatts!! (sheesh, I don't know if I spelled that name right either! :annoyed: I'm having a bad spelling day...)

Ooo I love those books! does anyone know when the next one comes out? (if there is one). Me and my sister really enjoy reading them. They are just so funny! even if they are for kids, I still like them. They are my kind of humor!

The books are humorous in a dark sort of way. The movie was all right. I don't think it compares to the books. There is always a different sort of feeling to reading a story and watching a story. But, I like both the books and the movie. Lemony Snicket is a great writer.

Lemony Snicket is brilliant! So imaginative and hilarious yet dark his novels are...whoa, now I'm starting to speak like Yoda! Anyways, I learned one of my favorite words from "The Ersatz Elevator"..."ersatz"...I use it whenever I can. Ersatz shrubbery! Mwahaha!

I believe that the next book comes out Oct. 14. Too long to wait!

Oh man, you're not kidding that's too long to wait!! *wails* At least we know it's coming out though, eh? :) Yay! I'm so glad to see so many fellow SoUE fans!! I must confess though, I have a very serious fear with the series... I mean, not that I REALLY think it's going to happen...but can anyone imagine what it would be like to see one of the Baudelaire kids died? Arrgghh!! I'm not sure I could take that...

I love these books! But, they don't seem to get anywhere (I've only read up to the Carnivourous Carnival, or whatever the title was) so maybe it picks up a little. I haven't seen the movie, though, but my mum saw it and she said it wasn't great, so...

Oh, I love these books too! :) I've read all the way up to the latest one, and also the Unauthorized Biography. I love the way Lemony Snicket writes!! :-D It's so kid-friendly, and yet I learned so many new words through the books he wrote. I can't wait until the next one comes out!!

But I take it I am also not the only one who thought that the movie was a little...off, shall we say? I mean, not that it was totally bad, but considering all the stuff they missed when they should have been staying true to the books...
