Has anyone ever read The Sword of Shannara by Terry Brooks?

yep. my library is demented, with the first, third, fifth, and every other number of Shannara books in random order with gaps in the middle. so yes I've read Sword of Shannara, Wishsong of Shannara, and Druid of Shannara (though I didn't get to finish it).

I have the book --- I've never read it though, I heard it was very similar to Lord of the Rings.

lol yes my library's like that too which means in fantasy series with books 2 and 5 or similar sitting on my book shelf.

I've read quite a lot of the Shannarra ones; The Sword, The Elf Stones, the Wishsong and the first King. I've also read the 4 that are really one story about Par.

They're really enjoyable books though they are a bit too similar to LotR (and each other)

I've noticed that too, which marred the distinction between Sword and Wishsong. definite plot repetition, except with different names for the people. I got a bit confused in the middle of Druid so I stopped.

Sword has some likenesses to LotR, but overall it is a good read.

Oh, great books by a brilliant author. I do agree, it is rather repetitive and quite a bit like LotR...Until you get to the Ilse Witch and Jerle of Shannara, I think they are, and the one after that. But still, altogether a good read. I enjoyed them.

I've read all of Terry Brooks books. He really is a good author The Sword of Shannara and Voyage of Jerle Shannara series were the best, I think. The rest were okay, but sometimes they got kinda boring.
I think my fav character from the Sword of Shannara was the prince from Leah, Meredian(?).

Oh yeah I liked him too. I thought it was a bit annoying though that his grandson I think turned up in book 3 as exactly the same character.

the Sword of Shannara tells about an ordinary boy who is half Elf and half Human. He is the last surviving member of the house of king Shannara, and he has to find a sword to save his world from the Dark Lord. It is like Lotr, he gets a fellowship of friends and there is also an old wise man to protect him.. I like the book, but you have to read it yourself to know where it is about..

Well I only read The Sword of Shannara, The Elfstones of Shannara and the scions of shannara...I stopped halfway through each though.

Well, Allanon is nothing like Gandalf. But the book itself is very close to LoTR in plotline. My dad actually can't watch LoTR without thinking he's watching the Shannara book instead, as he read the Sword but never read LoTR.

I've read the first one and I have the rest, but I havent got round to reading them. The first was very good though, but it seemed very similar to LOTR. :stab: <<Shea
