I just got this from the library the other day. I have the proper middle-english version so its taking me ages to read. I'm reading the Knights Tale at the moment.
Has anyone else read this book? I'm really enjoying it, I'd be interested to know what other people think.

I bought it but I haven't found the time to read the whole thing through. I've read little bits though, and the copy I have is really neat because it has the middle English on one side and proper English on the other so you can compare it. It's kind of funny actually! It looks like a little kid wrote it. :P The actually story I can't say much about, though.

Reviving this thread!

Yes, I read it a few years ago. I think I was 15; I finished it a few days before going to New Orleans to meet my uncle, aunt, and cousins who were there on a business trip. I remember that vividly because I love it so much I was trying desperately to convince my cousins they MUST read it, and then TRIED to read the prologue in Old English and couldn't pronounce things correctly. :dunce:

It's another book that I ought to re-read *stares at list of books I must read and re-read* in this schoolyear sometime. I know of someone on A-U who recently DID read it though, and I'll tell her about this thread and try to drag her over to it.

About what I liked, I actually enjoyed reading about the travelers all coming together more than their actual individual tales. I know, seems weird, but the way Chaucer sets things up is great!

yes! i love chaucer! classic medieval satire, and plus middle english is so much fun! although it's probably smart to read the footnotes or you're completely lost...it's a lot of fun to read out loud, or heard read aloud...whichever!

Does anyone have a favorite tale from Canterbury Tales? Since it is a collection of tales, you could say. Just curious.

Yep, we studied it in English, it was great fun. Some were a bit rude though.
