you're not alone - i play flute too. been playing for nine years now, and was half-way to doing a diploma when i had to stop having lessons a year ago. have played in town and county ensembles as well as folk, jazz and wind groups at school. my favourite type of music to play is folk, hands down. how about you?

folk is very fun, I aslo like hyms and of course -- LotR. But I guess thats not really I style. I havn't been playing nearly as long as you have, I've been playing for about 2 1/2 years, but so far I've only met about 2 other people (not on A-U) that play flute.

that surprises me actually - i can't move for bumping into flautists most of the time! there were about eight at my high school and at least seven just at summer theatre school.

hmmm, never played celtic, sounds very fun though, I always loved celtic music. That is weird...but as some of you may know, I'm homeschooled and so I don't have band or anything like that so, I don't see many other flautists, save my teacher and one other girl.

((I love you avie Star_Gazer! The Princess Bride is such an awsome movie!))
My friend Jane plays the flute. I tried to play the flute for a while, but I just never got the hang of it So I played the clarinet from 4th-6th grade so like 3 school years. My friend is a good flute payer.

Oh! I play the flute as well as the piano.
I really haven't been playing that long ( 3 years) but I got the hang of it pretty fast and I'm able to play some really good Mozart songs now. He's my favorite composer.

yeah, mozart wrote some beautiful stuff for flute. his flute and harp concerto is one of my favourite pieces to play - would love to actually play it with a harp sometime. john rutter's suite antique and faure's morceau de concours are great flute pieces too. would highly recommend you listen to them, even if you're not up to playing them (the waltz in the suite antique is particularly tricky).

OO! I play the flute!
I've played for 7 years, but that's pretty long for my age. That calculates out to me being 7 or 8 when I started . Wow. that was a long time ago.
I enjoy playing new music. Just whatever. I like powerful music you hear in fantasy movies like LOTR and Harry Potter. When I really like a song, I learn it by ear. My friend who plays piano and I are braving the depths of learning 'It Ends Tonight' by the All American Rejects. Dunno why...we're psychos...but it's really hard. I have about half of it figured out now and my brain is turning to mush.

Wow! lots more people than I thought... I am currently learning Pachabel's Canon (D) and the arrangement I have is quite confusing... Its a duet between flute and piano (I play both, but obviously I can't play both at the same time. ) My sis is playing the piano part... It is very confuzzling becuase we have to be EXACTLY lined up with each other in tempo... >.<
Hmm... I might have to try Mozart's flute/harp concerto sometime... My friend plays harp, and I might be able to convince her to learn it...

cool. i don't know what level you're at, but just to warn you - mozart's flute and harp concerto is on the diploma syllabus. i'm not entirely sure why though - it's easier than some of my grade 7 pieces. oh well!
other good pieces for flute and harp are steal away and the town i loved so well by phil coulter.

I see... I don't think I will be able to play it then, well, now anyway. I'm not THAT good... Oi, my sis got REAL mad earlier and said that I wasn't practicing my piece enough... And of course she ignored me when I told her that I have 2 other duets and one piece with 5 other players (I don't know what to call that...) to learn in the next couple of weeks. Not to mention all of the little stuff on the side. AND the fact that my practice is moved around alot due to school and stuff...
