i did a search and couldn't find a thread on him, which surprised me a little, so i thought i would remedy the situation.
anybody else a fan of the genius that is bob dylan? he's one of my absolute heroes and i still can't quite believe i'm lucky enough to be going to see him in concert in april.
i love the sheer poetry of his lyrics. his music's great, but i really like the way his words stand on their own - i'll quite happily spend hours reading his songs as i would poems, and you can't say that of a lot of songwriters. there are so many lines of his that are just so perfect they make me think "gosh, i wish i'd written that!".
i also love how his voice is just so full of character and emotion, and who else could make a harmonica look cool? lol
so, who else likes dylan? what are everyone's favourite dylan songs?

Yeah his voice is weird.... But I love it.... I've always loved unique sounding singers even if their voices are a bit... odd.

i'm the same as you, artemis - i like distinctive voices.
i can never decide what my favourite dylan song is. mr tambourine man has a special place in my heart as the first i heard, and i love the bit about dancing beneath the diamond sky with one hand waving free; but then i love the lyrics to i believe in you because they're such a perfect evocation of man's love for christ; and then again, i love hurricane because of it's brave political message and it's stonking violin part; and i love the emotion in knocking on heaven's door...it's so hard to decide. and i'm the one who asked the question!

Oo, Bob Dylan is my most favourite singer of all time.. but I love him as a poet, too. He's just so thought inspiring, and puts across such emotion in his songs, that it shocks me each time I listen to them.
It's amazing how he can say such a simple sentence, and it sounds clever.. I was spell-bound a few days ago, by just the sentence: "Come over here, from over there, girl." o_O;
I went to see him in Birmingham in 2003, and it was the best experience of my life. The entire night was incredible.. even if he DID keep his back to the audience all night.
He now has a radio show, too.. which is weird, to say the least. XD;; I've read his auto-biography, and couldn't put it down...
...My favourite song is probably 'Desolation Row', but it's so hard to choose... every single one of his songs are amazing. The only songs I didn't like of his, was his religious songs.. but I'm sure they were good for the subject.

snap! that's exactly how i feel, except that i love his christian songs - he wrote about god and faith better than anybody else i've come across.
the guy has such immense wisdom - my favourite line atm is "you got some big dreams baby, but to dream you gotta still be asleep". that really spoke to me cuz i often find myself living in dreams, but he's right - if you're in dreams you must be asleep, so you're not really living properly. it seems so obvious, so simple, but no-one else has thought to say it.
