nah you're definitely not the only ESC enthusiastic here.
But unfortunately I'm not as familiar with the history of the ESC as you are. During the last few years I always enjoyed the Turkish acts I must say. I really like their music

Yeah Turkey has had some great entries during their time in the contest.
LoL I'm just a hopeless geek when it comes to the ESC. I can't help but know all this stuff

They were/are awesome.
I've never ever voted for a song on Eurovision before, I think I voted about 7 times for Lordi

AHH HA HA HA HA! I was wondering when and if you were going to start a thread on this, Eru!
Well, odd as it may sound, a wee American knows about the Eurovision Song Contest. And that's all thanks to one of my Political Science professors, who's quite obsessed. XD
We spent an entire lecture just on the ESC.

Oh, I SOO agree. Ha ha ha ha. They were beyond awesome. Let's just say, for an American's first introduction into the ESC, they were perfect.
Miss Eru has kindly given me links to many of her favourites on YouTubes, and wow! Ha ha ha ha! I definately spent a couple hours watching many acts. Some of those outfits! XD XD XD
I'm definately excited to follow the ESC this year for the first time!

Good evening Europe, and greetings from Spain!
Ladies and gentlemen, allow me to present the entry from Spain. We are dealing with a true hit judged by its ability to get hopelessly stuck in your head after you've listened to it once or twice.
And don't forget to check out the famous dance.. people are copying it big time on YouTube!!

I'm actually not amused by the influx of just... crazy, insane entries that seem to be so popular this year. I've seen all the other entries and they're very much like the Spanish entry, but worse. Ireland takes the prize this year I think with Dustin the Turkey. Ukraine last year was a bit funny I admit, but this year it's just not funny.
I realize that Eurovision is not serious to most folks but for the hardcore enthusiast it's frustrating when people don't make the effort to send quality music.
I apologize for my rant here

Ugh. Dustin the Turkey is... insane. Last year's oddball entries were awesome, especially the Ukraine's drag queen, who I still have on my iPod. I can't say I'm impressed this time around.
BWO should definitely have won in Sweden... And not only because Martin Rolinski is gorgeous. I just feel that "Hero" is too conventional. Of course, based upon what I've seen of the competition, it's probably going to be the best thing there.
I'm another American Eurovision fan, Eru introduced me to it last year.

I agree with everything you said here, hehe. I voted for BWO at least 30 times but alas! Hero has a nice catchy melody for a chorus but it's way too bland. The artist is way too bland. Plus she's already won for Sweden once back in 1999. BWO has a huge fanbase in Eastern Europe, it would definitely have helped us! ARGH!
Hehe I didn't know I was the one who introduced ya

I don't know what to say or mean about it.. really. I feel average about the ESC... but I agree it has changed a lot over the years. I liked how Lordi added a new spice to it but I never thought of them as "real" ESC'ers. Denmark is represented by a drag queen this year.. he has a good singing voice (he used to sing in a Tina Turner cover band) and his song is a lot closer to what I associate with the 'real' ESC, like in the 'good, ol' days' where Sweden and the UK took turns winning the contest.
When the audience chooses the winner (as they do in most countries), it's gotta turn into a popularity contest where the artists will be judged by the overall performance more than the quality of the music. And the audience might have changed over the years too...
