I've really been getting into instrumental music lately (or I should say, more than usual), and I want to know what your favorite instrumental pieces are.

Here are a few of mine.
Beethoven's 7th symphony, second movement. There are a couple boring parts, but the melody is so moving. It was featured in the movie "Knowing" with Nicolas Cage
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LdfNTO_o-3k

Moonlight Sonata. Another Beethoven piece. Gorgeous, slow, and sad. I want to learn how to play this on the piano.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w2cFEHM9yMw

A Rose in Winter Such a pretty, calm song, but still moving. I love it.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IYDHFuY6 ... re=related

Crystal Tears The wind chimes are very calming, and the pipe melody is beautiful.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ihd_HgGn ... re=related

Requiem for a Tower: You don't get much more epic than this. This piece (a reworking of Lux Eterna) was used for The Two Towers movie trailer.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ZCW5x8c ... PL&index=2

Ghost Love Score: By Nightwish. This one is pretty epic too. A lot more modern, with electric guitars and drums.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N1VnZDQSNao

Eros: Chris Spheeris. This piece has a spanish flair to it. Slow, melodic, and romantic. I love the rain in the background.

Appassionata: Secret Garden. Gorgeous, especially when the main violin melody comes in. Dramatic, sad, and yearning.

These are a few of my favorites. I'm interested to know what other people like.

Nice thread.

I'm gonna try to avoid using the obvious ones ie/ anything on the LotRs score :P

Ride of the Valkyries by Richard Wagner..just bloody epic. I've been in love with this piece for as long as I can remember: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V92OBNsQgxU

Les Toreador from Carmen by Georges Bizet. I got into this via Little Einsteins...yeah feel free to laugh. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4DNGMoMNLRY

Semantics by Jerry Goldsmith from The 13th Warrior OST ie/ one of the best scores EVER: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4DNGMoMNLRY

Gattsu/Gats/Gutts/Whatever by Susumu Hirasawa from the Berserk OST. Tears my heart to shreds every single time. Just beautiful: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Umq_PYr6jqo

I couldn't decide between Dark Phoenix's Tragedy or Phoenix Rises by John Powell from the X3 score...so I'm gonna post both :P

DPT: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Umq_PYr6jqo
Phoenix Rises: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TzyxiynBfpo

Logan Through Time by the awesome Harry Gregson-Williams for the X-Men Origins: Wolverine movie score: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5RJobxnlYxs

That'll do fer now. I'm sure I can post loads more...unless they get posted before me XD

Ghost Love Score! :notworthy: EPIC!

Here are my absolute favorites:

Högfjällspolskan
- Kalle Moraeus.
Imagine you're standing on a mountain top surrounded by untouched wilderness in the hands of the elements!

Arons Dröm
- Stefan Nilsson [Juloratoriet OST].
Probably the most melancholic, beautiful and sorrowful score I have ever heard.

Woad To Ruin
- Hans Zimmer [King Arthur OST].
One of Zimmer's absolute finest. The most powerful, magnificent, majestic and breathtaking score he has ever composed.

Chevaliers De Sangreal
- Hans Zimmer [The Da Vinci Code OST].
A masterpiece. Simply awe-inspiring. Regardless of what you think of the content and significance of the film, you're seriously depriving yourself of one of the most fantastic scores ever composed in the history of music if you don't give it a listen. This gives me chills like NO other piece of music.

Storms In Africa
- Enya.
It's that uplifting kind of song you can just listen to over and over again. The kind of song that makes you want to dance in the rain, sing from the rooftops and run through the fields!

Forsen Om Våren
- One More Time.
River in Springtime. And that is definitely the feeling you get throughout the song. You hear rivers flowing and you can just imagine nature coming to life after being asleep all winter.

Tröstevisa
- Benny Andersson.
Song of Solace. I always get a sense of nostalgia when I listen to this song. Not only of my own lost childhood but sort of the lost innocence of a world that once was. It truly gives you comfort.

Allrakäraste Syster
- Björn Isfält [Allrakäraste Syster OST].
Hauntingly beautiful. It does something to my soul every single time that I simply cannot explain. Overwhelming sense of nostalgia for me as well.

I could be here all night long listing scores so I think I'll stop here, hehe. I might come back later and share some more though.

I'm gonna ignore all my favourite soundtracks because otherwise the list will be endless :P

Naur! I love that piece of Beethoven.. Especially from 6:10 to 6:30. It's so powerful :)

Craig Armstrong - Childhood 2, the whole piece is just touching and makes me feel vulnerable.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cDisDwLef3o

Chopin - Krakowiak, a piece one have to get used to, but I love it.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oyclDnE1Qh0

Rachmaninov - Piano Concerto 3 in D minor. After watching Geoffrey Rush' exceptional performance in Shine I could not but love this piano piece, especially the first part.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oA0kXDMKiLg

Ludovico Einaudi - Fuori Dalla Notte & Le Onde
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m_Lb5CntJRQ (Don't mind the clip just the music)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gr4FN_DOpSk

Simeon ten Holt - Canto Ostinato
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GPHo7r5CuZc&feature=related

Sacred Harp Singers - Idumea. This is choir music, but it enchants me. It's beautiful yet not really instrumental. It's played in Cold Mountain btw.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fU_QFvkPJvw

Eric Satie - Gnossiennes no. 1
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WIVp05sEPhE&feature=related

Amadeus Mozart - Symphony no. 25 in G minor. Quite a threathening piece but brilliant.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7lC1lRz5Z_s

Furthermore I think that the complete Mattheüs Passion is brilliant. Actually the first and the last piece I like the most.

Needless to say I love piano music :p

Palladio - Jenkins
You cannot deny how epic those strings are.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9sluHJGcxek

Moondance - Nightwish
Very haunting and beautiful. Instrumental metal=win.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pnl51qk2gPU

The Battle - Harry Gregson-Williams
Every time I watch The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe I am blown away by the music in this scene. The melody is so moving and epic(forgive me for overusing that word xD), the drums are amazing, and...well I don't know what else to say, just listen to it.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TWGIFYNrDJg

-ETA-

Homeland - Hans Zimmer
I completely concur with all that's been said about Hans Zimmer's awesomeness. This is the main theme from Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WVYrDCUWdr8

This Land - Hans Zimmer
The theme from The Lion King. Beautiful.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nhMUvhIAPtY

Shiro, Long Tails - Yoko Kanno
From the anime Wolf's Rain. It's a very emotional piece.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RsvUHGqd1Cg

Marche Slave - Tchaikovsky
I've loved this piece since the first time I heard it.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5poSw7tFLB4

Russian Sailor's Dance - Gliere
I remember playing an adaption for this for the clarinet...the video sounds better because it's an orchestra. xD
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yJgZ-GiPlvM

Eternal - Evanescence
This one has more of a techno feel. I love the piano part with the thunderstorm in the middle...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gK9770XQh80

I Know What You Are - Burwell
While I didn't like the film Twilight very much, I have to admit that the score was amazing. I love this song because it's like what would happen if goth music and country music collided. XD Very slow and haunting.
