Post subject:  The "Which Vocalist is Best?" Thread

Out of nowhere, I got the idea for this thread. :) My thought process:

1. You pick two artists or bands in the same genre and post the link to a chosen song from each.

2. The person who posts after you chooses which vocalist they prefer, NOT which song or overall band is better.

3. In choosing which vocalist you prefer, you should probably give a reason or so why you chose who you did. If you don't like either at all, just choose which one is the lesser of two evils. :-P If you like both, give reasons for why you like both and try to narrow it down.

This really isn't a big deal, so feel free to ignore option 3 if you don't care that much. ;) As a note to why the songs should be in the same genre, it really wouldn't be fair to post a metal song and an acoustic song and make someone pick between the two. If someone hates all acoustic songs and vocalists, then they'll obviously pick the metal vocalist if that's what they prefer.

I'll start things off.

Hmm, hard one. I'd say Demon Hunter because I wasn't feeling the emotion in the other one. Maybe because the Demon Hunter song has a wider range of emotion? As I Lay Dying sounded...monotonously angry. Not really passionate. :P But it's hard to tell if the song shows the vocalist off better or if the vocalist is actually better. I like the songs, though.

It really is hard not to let the music play a part in my decision. :-P In After Forever, I like how the growls are intermixed with female vocals, but I'm not a huge fan of that style of female voice. In Nightwish, I've never liked her vocals too much, but I like them better than the other female vocals. Based on the female vocals, I prefer Nightwish. They're so different and dramatic that I have to appreciate them. :)

Not being a huge fan of this particular type, I will still say that I think J.R. Richards is better. I feel like he had a lot more conviction in his seeing. It also helps that, at least I couldn't see, he was trying to catch the camera's eye every other gorram second.

Alizée! Her voice has grown on me and it's all your fault Eric. I definitely really love her voice though... very sexy and alluring.

I've gotta go with Finntroll. The video is creeping me out to no end, but I like the rich growls compared to the shouting/screaming of Ensiferum. I also like the little breaks when the voices start chanting in a way that makes me want to dance. :-D
