It's a German dessert that's somewhat like a fruit flan. Traditionally, it's made with Italian prune plums which are in season this time of year, but I'm sure other plums could be used. The plums are fairly tart, and aren't sweetened. There is often a sweet streusel topping on it. I always get one from the German bakery in the village for my birthday.
