Well, in a family tree, generally you post in the thread for one of the Trees or here and say you want to be adopted and someone will gladly adopt you.

The newly adopted or their parents will then post in here, letting Larael know that they have adopted/have been adopted by a certain member of a certain line.

For example, I posted in Herenya's line wishing to be adopted and was adopted by Turwaithion. After, I posted in this thread, saying that I had been adopted by him. Larael would then re-edit the 1st post of Herenya's line and place my name underneath Turwaithion's as such.
