Ooh, you could ask him if the other person was lying. The person who lied would say "no" and the person who told the truth would say "yes." From there, ask the other person which is the right way, and go accordingly.

Um, what if you asked, "How do you get from (place you came from) to the village?" Then if he was the liar, he'd give you wrong directions about the way you came, and you'd go the other way on the fork.

You indeed ask what the other man would say but then you would have to take the road opposite to the answer which was given
