Hello All. ![]() I'm planning a book and I want it set in Montana. Only problem is, I don't know much about Montana. ![]() So, what I'm asking is: - Has anyone been to Montana? - Does anyone live in Montana? ( ![]() - Anyone know any good sites about Montana in general? And just general info on Montana, if you have it. I know it's a bit random, but it'd help me heaps. ![]() Estë |

Mwa ha ha ha ha ha! YES! You freakin' rock! *cough* So yes...I am FROM Montana...hence the name. ![]() Montana is a wonderfully beautiful place. 4th largest state in the U.S. Very VERY small population. http://mt.gov/ http://visitmt.com/ The almight Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Montana Those, I suppose are just the obvious sites...but that's okay. We're right in between Idaho, Wyoming and North Dakota and share our northern border with Canada. And no, we're not part of Canada. ![]() Odd fact: If we were to secede from the Union and become our own country, we'd be the 4th largest NUCLEAR power in the world. *evil laughter* Um...we have Glacier National Park in the Northwest...and Yellowstone in the south. Western Montana is fairly mountainous...because the Rocky Mountains run through Montana. "East of the Continental Divide" is Eastern Montana (duh) and it's fairly flat. Being from the Western part of the state...I'm a little biased to say that the western half is the better half. For many reasons...but I think it's prettier here. ![]() We call Montana the "Big Sky" state...because our sky seems so big. And BLUE. Lewis and Clark traveled through Montana. Montana is like a small town. Though we're a large state...it seems everyone knows everyone. That's all I can think of right now. I should also mention that Sida is from Montana. ![]() Oh, and the University of Montana is SO much cooler than Montana State University. ![]() |

Fwee! *Pounces on* Love you hun! ![]() Well, as I said, I have been doing some research so I'm getting good on the georgraphy and countries within the state. The thing I'm having trouble with is where to go, I need my character to explore and go places. Which country should she stay in? Do you have any ideas except for the obvious?? ![]() Also, odd question for you maybe, what's your accent like? ![]() ![]() It's kinda hard starting from scratch, I'm hopeless at geography but thanks to Google Earth (oh Google Earth owns!) and various sites I am building up some idea of what Montana is like. ![]() So yea, thanks for helping me Montana, I'm going to pounce on Sida when she comes on MSN. Mwahah. ![]() |

![]() The thing I'm having trouble with is where to go, I need my character to explore and go places. Which country should she stay in? Do you have any ideas except for the obvious?? ![]() Also, odd question for you maybe, what's your accent like? ![]() ![]() You mean counties not countries, right? ![]() ![]() Well, it really depends on what you want your character to do. And you also have to figure in the weather. SO, if your character is here in winter, say before January--it's usually snowy and cold. Though, we haven't had that much snow the past few years. During January and February, it gets wicked cold. Below zero...without a 30 mph windchill. BRRR!! "Spring time in the Rockies" usually means, anything goes. Snow, rain, sunny...whatever. Ha ha ha. The summers are really nice. This past summer got record breaking hot. If you want your character here in the summer....well...there's always Flathead Lake. Cool place. ![]() So, I can't really tell you good places to go because it really depends. Any ghost town is cool...Bannack for one. Umm....anywhere in the mountains. I would suggest the mountains in the southwest/south central. Though, the Mission mountains up north are gorgeous! Like I said earlier about Eastern Montana...it's not that spectacular. But parts of it are okay. If you just ignore Billings, Eastern Montana is tolerable. Up near Eureaka and Choteau...those are cool places. Especially Choteau...lots of dinosaur bones!!! That's a cool place....Eastern Montana is fairly well known for all the dinousaurs found. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Mmmm...accent. Well...I was just talking about that with my roommate the other day. I mean, I suppose we HAVE an accent, who doesn't. ![]() We do pronounce our "a's" differnetly. Instead of bag being said as: "baaaaaahhhhhg" (like a long a) we say it like with a short "a." Does that make sense? Ha ha ha. Maybe Sida can/did explain that better. Oh, and if you're a natural born Montanan...we tend to hate Californians. They come in here, think they own the place, jack up the prices on everything, DEVELOP all the damn land into stupid Wal-Marts and subdivisions, and they don't even bother to live here. ![]() *sigh* Erm...that's all I can think of right now.... |

![]() Ah yes, my typo...numerous times. Counties, not countries. ![]() Ah, what you've said is good. ![]() ![]() I see about the accent, you'd say bag like us English then? Bag instead of baaaahhhg. ![]() Sounds cool. And you're time is GMT-7. Right? Same as Alberta? |

Yeah! we are in GMT-7, Ha, I was born in California.. ![]() Umm...Missoula is nifty as MB has pointed out, haha, we have the old historic downtown area and the newer "anywhere america" part of town with big box stores and so on..In the summer we have an excellent local farmer's market, that's where all the locals go ![]() ![]() ![]() Hmm... |
