An experiment that does not ever need to be repeated, as far as I am concerned.  And a dish apparently common to all parts of the British Isles, right up there with the legendary goat’s eyes reputedly served in some parts of the Middle East: roast meat served with mint sauce!!! I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt on the roast lamb, but do you have to pollute it with mint? Legend has it that Americans love peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. I hereby proclaim that I once tried the stuff, and seldom suffered from a more serious case of the heaves! (I’ve never been offered goat’s eyes …)

A German, extremely low-fat (about 1%!), fairly pungent sour milk cheese made from low fat curd cheese, called “Harzer” after the Harz highland area of Lower Saxony near Braunschweig. I’m more familiar with its more southerly cousin from southern Hesse, specifically the Frankfurt / Offenbach region called “Handkäs”, which I will be looking out for on our next “weekly” buying binge for a taste comparison. |
