The hare was browsing on the lawn just a short while ago (this is the original sense of the word browse, aka grazing. For some reason,"ruminating" has not made it into the Internet vocabulary ... )

I've just heard that the weather forecast for January/February 2018 is tons of snow in this area.

Weather forecast more than two months into the future – what kind of “special pipe-weed” have those guys been smoking?!?

(sorry, couldn't help it. totally random too.)

As the hare only appears far after sunset, it is close to impossible to see clearly what it imbibes. As we still have a fairly large selection of mushrooms visible on the meadow – maybe PJ with his depiction of Radagast, and having his sled being pulled by – OK, Rhosgobel “Rabbits” – had some hits (Radagast / mushrooms) and some misses (rabbits / hares) in what he depicted in AuJ.

Apparently, you can tell a whales age by looking at the wax plugs in its ear-holes. Pretty much the same way you can tell the age of trees by counting the growth rings.
Mind you, I have not been close enough to a whale to actually test this piece of trivia.

Mind you, I have not been close enough to a whale to actually test this piece of trivia. If you remove the wax ear-plugs from a whale’s ear holes, shouldn’t that improve their hearing and make them very happy?

I guess you're going to have to find a whale and ask him or her.

Depending on the whale, that might be the right size for a wax plug in the earhole.

Ha! They obviously haven't lived in the Pacific Northwest where a post set in concrete will rot at ground level in about a ten yesrs, leaving the new post-hole digger the unenviable task of digging out the unrotten piece surrounded by several pounds of concrete, before setting the new post in ...... wait for it ..... concrete.

Um... Dad used this method to set the cedar post for the mailbox at the house in Seattle in 1961. It's still standing in good condition. Last I checked, Seattle is in the Pacific Northwest.

Oh dear, here I go again … Seattle (and for that matter Vancouver the city) is located at the mouth of a river, so very much of the area these cities are built on may consist of alluvial silts, so more or less sand. I’m guessing Vancouver Island (very sparsely populated) is very much covered by coniferous forest. The latter is very much acidic (as are the overly prevalent “industrial” spruce forests in Germany, which are having serious issues adjusting – mostly not – to global warming. They, fast-growing, were imported from Scandinavia during the “small ice age” of perhaps 1400 to 1800. Then it was a good idea to counteract – and regulate! excessive felling of trees …), so any kind of wood has issues in that kind of an environment compared to a less aggressive silt environment. And then, what kind of wood is used for posts certainly has an effect on how long they survive any given environment. Even wood natural to an environment can fall apart fast if not treated correctly (and I’m not talking about often poisonous chemical treatment).
