Welcome to the thread to discuss memes, share them, and just in general laugh and point at them.
Don't know what a meme is? Let me explain.

A meme is generally a funny picture, with words on it. There are several "standard" memes, for example the trollface:

And the "you don't say" meme:

(That's actually Nicholas Cage, can you see it?)

At this point in time there are memes for everything. Stupid people, sarcasm, politics, shallowness, happiness, mockery, sadness, friendship, romances, games, movies, electronics, etc, etc, etc. You name it, there's a meme of it. Some are fashioned after real life people, who happened to make a funny expression that simply needed some words to make it dead awesome - like the Nick Cage one. Others aren't cartooned, but still have words on them. Like Boromir. Boromir is a REALLY famous meme. Words always featured in his memes are "one does not simply" and then people have come up with all kinds of words to complete the sentence. Like:

And

Memes are basically the best thing in the world, and if it weren't for them,
I'd be bored most of the time and possibly drown in a dark abyss.

There are also a number of meme's with set names, that everyone in the meme world know of, like:
Bad Luck Brian
Good Guy Greg
D-bag Steve
"Asians"
"Seriously?"
"If you know what I mean"
"You don't say"
Boromir
Freshman kid
Drunk kid
Nerd girl
Gamer guy
Forever Alone guy
It's Something guy
Cereal guy
What's all this racket guy
Grumpy Cat
Ridiculously Photogenic guy
And a million more.

Memes aren't just funny on their own, but can be used as reactions to what people have posted on the internet.
I use them all the time on tumblr, if someone says something that's painfully obvious I might use the Cage meme, for example.

Internet Memes. Interesting concept. Would potential Memes which are limited to the infamous bubbles qualify as such? While Richard Dawkins coined the term in his 1976 book “The Selfish Gene”, he has not contributed much to the discussions and developments of the concept, others have been much more active. It is not what one would call a “scientific” term (perhaps analogous to the situation surrounding “burn-out”), but then the definition of “Gene” also varies to a surprising degree depending on the scientific specialization of those using the term (and never mind “The Media”, and just totally forget the tabloid part of that!).

No, I first read about it in the book in which Richard Dawkins coined the term, his 1976 “The Selfish Gene”, if in the 2006, much expanded 30th anniversary edition. Dawkins himself did not pursue the topic much after coining the term, while others certainly have, Daniel Dennett and Susan Blackmore come to mind spontaneously. And as a first, quick source of reference, Wikipedia certainly has its uses (see “See also”, “Notes”, “References” and “External links” at the bottom of the longish Wiki article on Memes) as long as you avoid topics that are (mostly politically) controversial. Certainly better that the huge pile of useless, garbage links that Google comes up with, as its “ranking” of articles has often rightly been criticized. Get a minimum of knowledge before posting moronically.
