"A pair of newfound species of glass frog — amphibians with transparent underbellies that put all their internal organs on display — have been discovered in Ecuador. But the naming of one of the species has triggered controversy. One of the new species has been, Hyalinobatrachium nouns, is lime-green on top and clear as window glass underneath; it's named after the Nouns decentralized autonomous organization (DAO), a group that buys and sells non-fungible tokens (NFTs) with cryptocurrency. The controversy arises from the fact that cryptocurrencies get their value through a process called "proof of work," in which computers compete against one another to solve mathematical puzzles. This is extremely carbon-intensive, as it involves large amounts of computing power." I recently read this and was shocked. What do you think about it? |

Wow, I had no idea that toads and cryptocurrency could have anything to do with each other. And I didn't know that cryptocurrency affects the environment. I just didn't think about it. It turns out that the price of using crypto is environmental damage. It's hard to accept that cryptocurrency is a source of intense carbon emissions. This is a revelation for me, I think I will reconsider my attitude to it. |

I can't believe that frogs and cryptocurrency can have any common ground at all. It's amazing. I thought crypto had no harm, only benefit in the form of money. |
