Post subject:  Swedish song about the Elves

OK this is a really good song by Sarek - one of my favorite Swedish groups (they sing folkmusic mixed with popbeats). The song is called "Älvorna" which means "The Elves". The song is very folkmusic-ish with an awesome beat behind it.

This is what the group looks like:

Lyrics translated:

The Elves
Sarek

Twilight is wrapping its arms around meadows
Wild birds awaken where sunset appears
Elven Maidens dance upon the moorlands
Far beyond everything mankind can see

They’re calling you and leading you when you’re not aware
They live in the dreams that you never will see
When dawn appears they disappear and won’t show again
They leave you awake to your fate as your dream fades away

Elven Maidens lure all good things from life
Building the dreams that all mortals possess
True is the story that never was written
No one can see it when daylight is here

La de di…

Dawn is approaching as they are still dancing
Sunbeams awaken as they slip away
Mankind is leaving all of their dreams behind
Sees all the beauty that morning light gives
Landscapes are opening up before your eyes
Hiding the fact that the Elves do exist

La de di…

NOTE: The lyrics and the song is based on Scandinavian folklore Elves - neither fairies nor Tolkien's elves - but Elves nonetheless!

:-o Oh man...that is TOO wierd! The lyrics are very beautiful...but I cannot believe that that is not related to Tolkien's stuff!! Do you suppose Tolkien might have known a few Swedes in his time?

Well he was inspired a lot by Scandinavian Folklore (as well as Celtic Folklore) but I don't know... We have known about Elves for hundreds and hundreds of years :-D

There are also dwarves, trolls, wizards and stuff in the Scandinavian folklore :-D You should listen to the song (if you like folkmusic inspired songs that is) :)

Dwarves, trolls, wizards...oh man. Tolkien MUST have known some of you guys...maybe that's where he got some of his ideas? And I do like folkmusic inspired songs, but my STUPID computer won't PLAY the SONG for me!!! :smash: :throw: Grrr...

Yeah, my computer doesn't support like ANY media players AT ALL. It's actually one of the old computers that my Dad picked up from the school he works at, and though the internet is all right, it basically can't do anything else. :grr: I am SO buying a Dell as soon as I have enough money saved up...then maybe I can get instant messanger programs too!

Ohhhh, you're soooooooo lucky... I'd ask you to trade computers, but I think you may as well be dead rather than have my compy. :annoyed2: That thing is going to blow up one day and kill me, you just watch. Treacherous little thing, but at least it gives me internet!

Heh! So is my brother with the computer HE bought. He's got a job doing yard-work around the area, and he's putting every penny of it into buying that thing. My mom won't let me do the same though, because she says she and my dad can't go even more into debt with my sister AND my brother still paying off their stuff. How unfair is THAT?! :disgust:

I know. :( And I'm lookin' at possibly another seven months to a YEAR before my brother has his dues paid. Maybe I'll go rob a computer store in the meantime. >thinks wistfully< :confuzzled:

Heh, back on topic, guys? ;)

Unfortunately, it won't let me play it :( but yes, Tolkien definitely got some of his inspiration to his writings from the Scandinavian folklore. We've had stories about trolls, elves, dwarves, wizards and such, through hundreds of years.

Hee, yeah, sorry Miremiel! It happens when no one else is posting. ;) We'll just have to open a Complain About Your Computer thread. :)

Wow...Tolkien having connections with Scandinavian stuff...that is so cool! I'm a real fan of Celtic stuff myself, especially their music, but their stories... man, they can just blow you away.
