I had the same trouble and wanted a pet-friendly, eco-conscious solution. I came across this helpful article:
https://sonic-barrier.us/blogs/cats/plants-that-repel-cats — it lists several plants known to repel cats naturally and explains how to use them effectively. For example:
- Coleus Canina (also known as the “Scaredy Cat Plant”) has a scent cats strongly dislike and can be planted along garden borders; it’s drought-tolerant and low-maintenance, perfect for keeping cats away
- Lavender, rosemary, rue, pennyroyal, and citronella are all aromatic herbs that deter cats while being pleasant for humans. Be cautious with rue and pennyroyal, as they can be mildly toxic if ingested in large quantities, so it’s best to plant them where cats can’t easily nibble
I planted a mix of lavender and Coleus Canina around the perimeter, and sprinkled citrus peels in spots they commonly visit. Within a couple of weeks, the cats mostly disappeared—they just avoid the area now. It feels natural and safe, and it really works!
