Deumeawyn, I'm sure that you're just fine, even without your coffee. It's part of my morning ritual - set the coffee maker on, check my emails, make my cup of coffee, watch the birds (or, fill their feeders), and contemplate the day's schedule. Tea? Afternoons and evenings........my grandmother was British, so everything stopped at 4pm for tea, and this is a very good thing, I think!

Hehe, well I guess I could say the same... only I don't know that I am a very nice person most mornings simply because I had to get out of bed early.... Now on a weekend when i can sleep in it's much nicer.

It's actually cheaper for me, in the long run, to just grind the beans for each carafe.
Those combination grinder/brewer contraption is EXPENSIVE!! It's almost as ridiculous as those Kuerig machines. I don't find that they are any more cost-effective in my own situation, AND they create a dreadful collection of wee plastic cups that won't biodegrade for 400 years! LOL!!!
SO, I use paper filters and throw all into my compost heap.
Delicious coffee = sugar + heavy cream I don't have to use much cream, at all, because it's so rich. And, it also cuts down on the amount of sugar that I use. I'm working on that........

My DeLonghi coffee machine doesn't use the 'pods'. It has a coffer on top where the beans are poured, when you hit your brew strength and amount button, it grinds beans, makes the coffee straight into the cup, and deposits the grounds into a catch. Easy as. You dump the catch when the sensor light come on, and you fill the bead coffer when it gets low. The only other maintenance is a monthly de-scaling.
I hate those stupid 'pods' they are a waste!

I used to LOVE coffee. I'd drink a carafe a day by myself! But then it started irritating my stomach. So, I have hot chocolate in the morning. I make it by mixing in a cup a spoonful of Hershey's regular cocoa (the powdered stuff in the brown can...) and one of Hershey's Special Dark cocoa, and a few shakes of salt (which enhances the flavor of chocolate). I heat the milk in the microwave, stir it into the mix and add a teaspoon of vanilla. Two of those over a few hours in the morning and I'm set for the day.

Yeah, I use the paper filtersnin my coffee maker. I'd like to try the ones that grind the beans, or try grinding them myself but i have never done that. I love cream in my coffe Silverleaf. Fortunately for me (even as a kid) white sugar just leaves some odd after flavor in my coffee that I habe never liked. So i have almost always drank my coffee black with the exception of adding cream or mill sometimes and occasionally coco or hot chocolate mix for a bit if a mocha flavor. @Finde, First off welcome to the forum!! Second, does the coffee bother your stomach because of the acidity? I know my mom gets bothered because of the acid in the coffee. For her there are some coffees that have less acid and she can drink them. Though hot chocolate is certainly a tasty alternative. Lol Intry not to drink too much die to the sugar content but every now and then I like to mix some hot chocolate with my coffee and make a mocha coffee.

Thank you again, Jax, for the welcome!
Yes, it’s because of the acid. Sadly, tea and alcohol do the same thing. I used to love a good mocha coffee! I worked at a company that had its own Starbucks on site. Geez! I’d have two or three a day! Probably what did the damage.
But being a third generation chocoholic, I find I don’t miss coffee, tea, or even alcohol (I will have a little champagne now and then...), at all. The chocolate satisfies me.

I see. Well, who knows, maybe a low acid coffee with a lot of milk additives would help, but at least you have a good alternative. Chocolate is certainly an easy thing to get addicted to!

So, waking up this morning as it got daylight with the silence of nothing electric running for miles around, I start to think of how I'm going to make coffee since the machine is dead in the water. I go digging into my hiking pack which I hadn't used in nearly 10 years now, and rummage around to find my old small aluminum peculator pot. I give it a rinse and then i need to grind the beans. So the mortar and pestle is used to pulverize some beans, and I get enough to fill the coffer in the perk pot. Love having gas stovetop, so I light up a burner and in about 10 minutes, viola! Coffee! The whole house smells of coffee! My wife and I had a cup, then decided to go out venturing to find where the power was. Ended up in Brisbane's West End having coffee and breakfast at Blackstar Coffee House! After I dropped my wife home, I headed off for work. I have to say the perked coffee tasted great... maybe it had something to do with all the manual labour I had to put into it?
Findë, your choccy drink sounds really tasty!

Sounds like quite the morning Hanasian! Almost makes me want to try that myself. I have a mortar and pestle somewhere.... not too commonly used. Lol The flavor of the coffee is supposed to change depending on the temperature it is made at. Maybe that could have had something to donwith it? *shrugs* Manual labor generally helps towards better appreciation of things too, though. lol

I always thought the coffee when camping tasted the best.

This morning my coffee did a lot to ease my laryngitis.

Evil.Shieldmaiden, ACK!!! I hope that it isn't painful for you - coffee actually has healing properties, as do many things. I sure hope you feel better.

Hope you feel better Evil Shieldmaiden. This morning I bought a coffee from the little shop that is on the street level of the building where I work, and I was sipping away on it through the morning, and just before I had to go into a meeting and give a presentation, I realized the plastic lid had a small crack in it and was dribbling drops down the front of my white blouse. So I had light brown spots down my front.

This morning I bought a coffee at The Boiler Room, a local cafe near my work. Come 4PM, I still had about an inch of coffee left in the cup. I went and microwaved it for 20 seconds and had a hot shot to get me through the next two hours while I finalized performance reviews.
