If any members have written poems based on any time period or subject of Tolkien's world, post them here.

I wrote this yesterday...

Lothlorien
------------

With beauty so fair, The sun shines upon her golden hair
Gown of white & silver, the radiance of knowledge fills her
Stone of adament set in silver ring, rests upon her hand
Gazing in pool that is a mirror which she learns all & understands.

Long her people have lived in the golden wood
For time there travels slow
And the land lives as if in the past
With golden leaves & silver bough, the Mallorn trees there forever grow.

As one walks through this forest, it seems nothing here does die
Feel comforted in knowing, that no evil here may lie.
For they are ever watching & nothing ill may pass their gate
The beauty of the wood & their fair queen is upon you and you do feel safe

You wish to tarry here many days, nay, more like many months
For here you can wash all despair away, as hope and love leaps into your heart
You sing a song of light, of nature pure & true. Of the sparkling shores of Eldamar!
Of this I wish for you..

The city of Gondolin
------------------------

Fair Gondolin, where have your people gone?
Once your streets were full of merryment & voice raised in song.
The hand was put to harp strings, not upon the bow.
The towers of alabaster & your beautiful streets of gold.

Why then did I hear fair voice raised in war not song?
Thy children they weep for you, tell me what has gone wrong?
Did not the lark sing happily in this place?
Was not the sun forever glinting upon your halls & homes?

Evil has discovered us & brought war upon our land.
My people they sing no more, & harp no longer in hand.
My towers have been thrown down upon the blood stained streets.
Now that war came, my people are dead or they have flown.

The hue & cry of war has quited all voice of song.
The children I see not, nor hear weeping, The war is what has gone wrong.
The lark no longer plays here, My halls & homes destroyed.
The sun now shines on ruins of what I once was....

Remember me my children, A voice from your past.
Remember all the fair things & that sometimes they do not last
For in your hearts remember the tower & streets of gold
Your fair Gondolin now in ruin that was once your sweet home...

Alas that I must be moddying here & now, but I think it's not quite welcome to have double posts.
Anyways, here's mine:

NARN I ENNOR

Long foreseen in the music of the Ainur
The Valar destined to rule
Beautiful lakes and rivers and behold! the sea
The fairest land for all to see

But stronger than the forces of nature
The Dark Lord gave it a hard lecture
To be destroyed and broken and taken;
The Free Peoples by the Gods forsaken

Many bitter wars and winters
On the shores Hither
And yet behind the blooded lakes
The Dark One is given what he takes

A new power rising in the East
Which destroyed Elenna’s bliss
Under the Sea taken her star;
The Armies marching against the Valar

Ai! Tar Calion the Great, what hath thou done?
Yet it is not his guilt at all that the West is gone
Who was the dark shadow behind the throne?
Sauron accursed: The Lord of Mordor

Faithful Elendil fled to Hither SHores
In the challenge of Mordor
He and Gil-Galad the Elven-King
Overtaken by the might of the Ring

Isildur, son of King
Cut from the Black Hand the fateful Ring
But with his men he was killed
On accurséd Gladden Field

Ring passed into Sméagol's reach;
A creature from family wealthy and rich
Yet banished from his home
Ever after he lived alone

The Ring came to Baggins-thief
The one not stopped by Gollúm's teeth
But far away from ashen lands
He left it to his nephew's hands

And Frodo set on a long quest;
The one without any happines and rest
And so began the cruel War of the Ring;
Yet it ended with the Return of the King

Not professional, but that's just meeeeeee.

I only created this topic because I couldn't find a "Poems by members" thread anywhere...

I'm sorry if I have created a double post..

I really couldn't find another place that this would belong. That is a "Poem's by Members" only thread..

I hope this will be ok.. Other wise could an admin move this thread to the true Poem's by members only thread plz..

BTW great poem Elf girl. I enjoyed it.

I hope to hear from others on what they think of the poems I wrote above.

I would like to get them translated into Sindarin at some point.

Eh, my LotR-related poems are mostly forgotten or lost; here's the only one I could scavenge:

Aerlinn an Ivann

A Ivann Cevedhrís, i vêl i ngelais:
Gelaidh lín pannar laiss gelin în,
Ah i iau donn thia ’wain a pengwais.
Fîn lín síriel sui nîn,
Hammen sui galadh di Menel,
Gaw lín na ’lawar Anor rígiel.
O gylf lín phain danna vîdh vallen
Nan gef barch ias si gala i iau galen.
Sylch lín vi nîn Guiar,
A gwaew Manwe vi laiss lín thuiar.
Cevedhrís, a Ivann vain!

O Yavanna Earthqueen, that loves the plants:
Thy trees open their green leaves,
And the tall corn seems new and without stain.
Thy tresses having flowed like waters,
You are clothed like a tree under Heaven;
Thy head having been crowned with golden light by the Sun.
From all thy branches falls a golden dew
Upon the dry soil where now grows the green corn.
Thy roots are in Ulmo’s waters,
And Manwë’s winds breathe in thy leaves.
Kementári, o Yavanna fair!

It was a bit odd, writing a poem with Sindarin as its original version and the English only a translation; the goal was to get the metre and rhyme work so I just changed words as needed.

Great poem Tyrhael.. I love the fact that you wrote it in sindarian & then translated it to english. :)

I wish I was able to do that.. Not the time to learn sindarian for a while, but I plan on it as soon as I can.

Yeah, I understand what u think ... I wanted to make a thread like this myself, but you were faster. : )
Thankies for the review and yours' are good too. I got bit lost because I stink at finding rhymes (and them I make them myself. World's strange) but then I saw the scheme ... Cool. : )
