Post subject: Faraowyn (A LOTR fanfic)
PostPosted: November 6th, 2006, 8:54 pm

Part 1
It was a cool, fresh green morning in the woods of Ithilien. The Fourth Age was established in Middle-earth, the One Ring destroyed and the now finally, Gondor's King had return. Faramir was the steward, and his wife was Eowyn of Rohan. They decided to live in the fair woods of Ithilien, and they had only but one daughter and her name was Faraowyn.

Of course, there were still evil creatures throughtout Middle-earth, and all the peoples of Middle-earth (chiefly the race of Men) were seeking the remants of those and destroying them. But no evil ever came to the Woods of Ithilien, and as the years passed, Faraowyn became strong, and knew how to wield a sword, as her Mother did long ago when she stabbed the Witch King of Angmar. But her mother had given up fighting, and did not so much liking her Daughter to become like this. But Faraowyn was Proud, and would usually harken to what her Mother would say.

Part II
"Faraowyn" said Eowyn one day, as her and Faraowyn were walking along the woods together. "I was wondering if you would like to go with me and your Father to the great City, Gondor. We badly want to vist King Aragorn and Queen Arwen again."
"Umm..." began Faraowyn. "I guess..."
"Oh, you dont have to...if you do not want to" exclaimed her Mother. "I mean, your old enough to stay by yourself, my, your almost sixteen! My, how the years go by."
"Really?" Faraowyn said with a smile spreading across her face. "You and dad would actually trust me?"
"Well," replied Eowyn, with a smile, "as long as you dont go trying to fight a Dragon in some unknown place, seeing how advneturous you have become."
Faraowyn laughed also, and said "Yeah, and I am almost getting better with the sword than most of the boys around here."
Eowyn said nothing, but Faraowyn knew what she was thinking.

Part III
It was dawn, and today was the day Mother and Father were leaving for Gondor. Oh how happy Faraowyn was, to be totally by herself; doing whatever she wanted, and no bossy parents around to tell her what to do all the time. She rushed out of her bed, and threw on some of her old leather-hunting armor. She ran downstairs, and there were her Mother and Father, eating their last meal before they descended upon their journey. "Faraowyn!" exclaimed her Mother, as she embraced Faraowyn. "Good morning, Mother" she mumbled, pushing her mother away. "Now, Faraowyn" began Faramir, "are you sure that you do not want to come? Do you really want to stay be yourself?"
"Father..." began Faraowyn in a cold voice, "I am almost sixteen, I can take care of myself. Besides, you guys will be back by next week or something right?"
"Right" replied her Father, in a nervous tone. "But there are still all these evil devils roaming around...what if one comes near Ithilien?" Faraowyn sighed and said,
"I can fight them off, and besides, nothing ever comes near Ithilien. The orcs and goblins fear it."
"Your right.." Faramir said doubtfully, "Now, Eowyn, are you ready?" Eowyn was looking calmy out the window. "Eowyn?" repeated her husband again. "I, ah-yes" Eowyn said, as she shook her head. Faraowyn watched them leave, and it surprised her that she had a feeling that she wished they would stay.

Oh, this could get interesting, now that Mom and Dad are away!

I would enjoy seeing a little more detail behind how the scenes move along, a little more 'fleshing out' of the characters' thinking behind their conversation. But, otherwise, I'm curious to see how Faraowyn copes with being on her own...

wow! someone read it!

more!
For the rest of that day, Faraowyn mainly spent out in the Woods; she was careful to stay near her home, she did not want to get lost in the forest. As dawn was coming, and it was getting cold and night was coming, Faraowyn went to sleep earlier than usual. She had tried to eat a normal dinner, but she did not like admiting that she missed her parents very much. She shed very, very few tears. She kept thinking "Maybe I should have gone with them," then she would shake that thought off and say "But I can handle staying by myself for about a week..."

Night passed, and Faraowyn slept peacefully. What woke her was the smell of smoke. Feeling a little bit frightened and a little worried, she sat fully away, and the smoke grew on, and she thought she saw sparks of yellow and red off in the distance. "It's just my imgination; thats all" she laid back down and tried getting back to sleep. Now this time, a flame lept up, and caught by on a nearby tree. It was such a loud thunder and lighting storm outside. Faraowyn sat up, trembling all over, and she saw the tree, leapt out of bed as quick as she could, grabbed her sword, and ran out of the house. A huge fire was beginning. "It's going to catch onto the forest!!" she thought, as she ran into the woods. She looked behind, and already, the little cottage where they lived was in flames. Tears stained Faraowyn's pale face, as she ran into the woods more, and more...

She had been running for quite some time, until she fell flat on her face and began to weep. She felt scared, lonely, and now their house was gone forever. She did wonder what to do, and she realized that she was very, very thirsty. "I better find a stream.." she said to herself as she stood up, wiped the tears off on her sleave, and began at a walking pace. It was still night, of course, which made her even more scared. She thought of trying to go on to Gondor, but, she had not the least idea of the direction. "At least it wasn't my fault" she told herself. Luckily, the thunderstorm had stopped, and nightingales began to sing. This cheered her up a little bit, and thought "after all, it is a adventure..." Pretty soon, she heard a rushing noise, and before her, ran a little stream. She stooped and got a long and most refreshing drink. The water was so cool...so fresh and pure. "Now" she said, after she had finished drinking "what should I do now? Go back? Pointless? Go forward? Only choice." she screwed her eyes up and could not make out any direction on where to in the forest. But she drew out a little dagger that had been at her side, stuck her chin out, and continued on into the forest.
