Legolas's Journal(please tell me what you think)
The extremely secret journal of Legolas Greenleaf, son of Thranduil
Day one: Mirkwood (Home!)-Today father caught some rather sick-looking dwarfs sneaking around Mirkwood; I bet the clumsy things ran into the spiders. HA!
Day two: 1 day later-Mirkwood-Lianna arrived and told me about a Hobbit (what’s that?), named Bilbo, who helped her escape from trolls. The dwarfs escaped. I wonder how, the cells were fully locked and guarded.
Day three: 2 weeks later-Erabor-What a mess! The battle of five armies is over. There were elves, dwarfs, men, and eagles against a goblin army to defend some gold. I do not see why battle is considered necessary except for safety, or preservation of life.
Day four: 47 years later-Mirkwood-I asked Lianna to marry me today. She said to wait. I had asked father if it was all right before hand but he didn’t like the idea and said so.
Day five: 3 years later-Mirkwood-Oh joy! Oh bliss! Lianna finally agreed to wed me. We are going to have a secret marriage, no one is to know.
Day six: 2 days later-Mirkwood-The secret wedding was pulled off without a glitch. Though I did catch Freya, Lianna youngest sister, hiding in the bushes near the wedding pavilion. Oh I hope she didn’t see. If she did I hope she doesn’t tell father. If She told Father she will be soooo dead.
Day seven: 9 1/2 years later-Mirkwood-The truth is bound to come out soon about Lianna and I, we are going to become parents. Luckily it isn’t noticeable, yet. If father finds out that I married against his wishes I will be in so much trouble.
P.S. Elro, my cousin, and Emlin, Lianna’s sister, are engaged. I hope they can wed without any trouble.
Day eight: 4 months later-Mirkwood-Lianna is gone. While taking a walk in Mirkwood with Freya, Emlin, Elro, and I, she and both her sisters gave a cry and fell off the cliff we were walking along. Elro and I (we did not fall) saw a black figure retreat into the forest. I have not told anyone yet, not even Elro, that I believe that my OWN father had them MURDERED!
Day nine: 1 month later-Mirkwood-Father called me into the throne room today and told me of a council, called by Elrond, that is to be held in Imladris (Rivendell, to some). He also told me that I am to go to that council, as a representative for the elves of Mirkwood. I leave in 2 days.
Day ten: 4 days later-On the road-I am now headed toward Imladris and the council. If all goes well I should be there within 4 weeks. If not, I should reach it within 6 weeks.
Day eleven: 2 weeks later-Still on the road-I have been delayed a whole week. Crossing a broad, flat plain I spotted a HUGE group of evil men and Orcs, moving fast. I hid in the bushes for a week, which tells me how big that particular group was. Not something to meet on a dark night, that’s for sure.
Day twelve: 2 weeks and 5 days later-Almost there-Imladris is within my sight now. I can even hear the inhabitants singing. I should be there tomorrow.
Day thirteen: 2 days later-Imladris-I was delayed only one more day by a flock of Crebain from Dunland, the hideous creatures. I shiver with the thought. Imladris is beautiful, just as I thought it would be. A Halfling named Frodo Baggins (related to Bilbo Baggins, [Lianna’s rescuer maybe?]), who was stabbed by an evil sword and close to death, is still unconscious, so we cannot hold the council until he is better. I wonder why, he seems insignificant.
Day fourteen: 3 days later-Imladris-The Halfling is recovered and we had a feast tonight. I got to sit up at the big table on the dais with the important people.
Day fifteen: 1 day later-Imladris-Elrond’s council was held today. First everyone was introduced. Then news of the world was stated, much of it I already knew. The history of the One Ring up until it disappeared was then told. Then the falling of Gondor was told. After that the hobbit named Frodo Baggins brought forth what I thought had been destroyed long ago, Isildur’s Bane. Then Bilbo Baggins told the full story of his finding of the ring. When he was finished, his nephew stood and told of what happened between the Shire and Rivendell. Then I had to tell of Gollum escaping, what a surprise there. As if that wasn’t long enough Gandalf told of his imprisonment in Orthanc! Now, to get to the point, I was chosen as one of Frodo’s nine companions for the journey. The others are, from Men: Aragorn and Boromir; from Wizards: Gandalf; from Dwarves: Gimli (son of one of the dwarfs that escaped the halls of my father); From Halflings: Frodo Baggins (the Ringbearer), Samwise Gamgee (his gardener), Meriadoc Brandybuck (his cousin), and Peregrin Took (his other cousin).
Day sixteen: 2 months later-Leaving Imladris-For almost 2 months we have been getting prepared for our journey. Now, on December 25 my adventure begins. For some, Frodo, Samwise, Meriadoc, Peregrin, Gandalf, and Aragorn, it has been gong on for several months.
Day seventeen: 8 days later-Heading South-As we were resting today, another flock of Crebain flew overhead. The company hid, but after that experience we are going to be more careful where we camp, in order to hide our fire.
Day eighteen: 7 days later-At the foot of Caradhras-Caradhras looks cold and forbidding. However, I would rather cross it than go into dwarven halls where the dwarves awoke an evil creature, no matter what Gimli thinks the reception might be. The sun is glinting off the Redhorn, making it look like a dagger covered with blood. No! I won’t think of bloodshed! Not before this long and treacherous climb.
Day nineteen: 1 day later- Climbing Caradhras-The Dark One’s arm has grown long indeed. He sent a blizzard to hinder us on Caradhras. We must find shelter soon or we will perish without a trace. Gimli is grumbling again, he is a dwarf after all.
Day twenty: 1 day later-Climbing Caradhras-So cold… I do not think that the Halflings will survive… Already the much-wanted sleep is creeping over me… Gandalf is giving a sip of miruvor to everyone and it provides a little warmth. Now Gimli is trying to light a fire, he is hopeless. But, then again, I can’t light it either. Gandalf finally picks up a faggot and says, “naur an edraith amen!” I wince, for he has written, “ Gandalf is here!” all over this accursed mountain. Finally, the snow has stopped. I lead Aragorn and Boromir through he snow to make a path for the others back down the mountain. Caradhras has defeated us.
Day Twenty-one: 1 day later-To Moria-We decided to go through Moria, despite the evil that dwells there. If this journey were not so important I would protest and dig in my heels. But… it was the Ringbearer’s choice. What is that? Wolves howl! This is not good!
Day Twenty-two: 1 day later-Moria Gate- We have reached the west gate of Moria. Some small slimy creature has begun following us. Mithrandir cannot remember the password. A stagnant pool lies before the gates; I do not like the looks of it. Oh no. Boromir, foolish mortal that he is has disturbed the water. Let us hope nothing foul was disturbed… Gandalf has opened the gate.
Later- As soon as Gandalf opened the gate, the watcher in the water seized Frodo. Samwise managed to free Frodo’s foot and we ran into Moria. Then the watcher sealed us in. There is only one path now, through Moria. Frodo can see in the dark, even better than I. Evil permeates every pore of this place, I can feel it. We stopped for the night in a guardroom while Mithrandir decided which of the three passages to take. Peregrin tossed a stone down an old well, and soon after we could hear the faint tapping of drums.
Day Twenty-three: 1 day later-Moria- We were attacked near Balin’s tomb, and we almost lost the Ringbearer. Now the fellowship is fleeing something very evil indeed, a Balrog, the lower levels are on fire. I wish we had never taken this road.
Later- We lost Gandalf, he died, but took the Balrog with him.
To be continued...
