"You to, my son?"
The Ides of March descending,
Led by ghosts, never-ending,
A time of ill-fortune for those who have led
The legions and hosts the Romans have bred.
Who could have ever forseen such a day?
For which the scion of the Caesars would coldly repay
His battles and revolutions he had fought in the noon,
As the Republic prepared for the ascent of the moon,
A general for the ages to never forget,
A dictator for the people to admire and love,
Julius Caesar the duly beloved.
But his ascent will be checked by another,
Whose blood is derived not from a legitimate mother,
The last free Roman to bestride the ages,
His story passed on by elderly sages,
Who would cast of all ties of kinship,
Fighting for a cause lost to us all,
Brutus the hero would memorably fall.
A memory by the Romans never forgotten,
The people of the city by Romulus begotten,
On the Ides of March descending,
Led by ghosts, never-ending,
The gods would hear of the death of their chosen.
