Post subject: | Legacy - PG |
Thought I would post one of my poems here just for fun. =) Legacy A cold cold heart is my legacy The winds of change have blown Forever lost are the arms of love I have known. Prisoner in a haunted place a desert dry Gentleness and tenderness within my reach yet denied And though she has desires and dreams I don't know what they are the magic kiss withdrawn from me met in another's heart. A cold cold heart is my legacy 'Tis the end of love's sweet song her need for me has flown you see When I thought our love was strong I was wrong. I thought I'd always win at love it never dawned on me That like a knife a cold cold heart would be my legacy. |

Ah, repeating lines and rhyming words do make a poem good in my eyes. What a brilliant piece of work. I'd be curious to know what inspired you to write it. ![]() |

Thanks for your kind response Larael. My wife who I loved deeply had an affair and nothing I could do could bring her back to me. I know that it is never one partner that is totally responsible for the loss of love (often guys don't realize there is a problem till it is too late) but this poem was just my emotion and frustration overflowing. It is how I felt! Oh, the tragedy of lost love! But what wonderful insights it brings to a seeking mind. I can empathize so much more with Tolkien and Lewis in their pain and understand better what they understood because of it. We all have pain and trials. I'm sure you do too. In the heat of the tumoil it can seem such a waste but nothing is EVER wasted if we are willing to learn and become better people. Then everything fits together to make a wonderful masterpiece out of our lives in the end. Tolkien and Lewis are striking examples of this. I think of all the pain in middle earth the story that cuts closest to me is the grief of Arwen at the passing of Aragorn. I have had a hard time with that. It is so sad and final and where is the silver lining? (unless it be in Aragon's last words "...and beyond them is more than memory, Farewell!") I so appreciate your interaction in this forum Larael. Whenever I see your name I sit up and take notice! |

Now that I know the backstory behind this poem it seems I can better understand and connect to it myself. Your pain and frustration becomes much more evident the second time through. My favourite few lines are these: Quote: 'Tis the end of love's sweet song
her need for me has flown you see When I thought our love was strong I was wrong. The wording flows in such a way that it does not distract from the true meaning of the stanza. 'Tis truly a heart-breaking realisation that is captured in these words. I do hope I'll see more poems from you in the near future. Thank you for sharing this. ![]() And thank you for your kind praise. It truly mean a lot to me. |
