Post subject:  Tithes and Offerings (not rated)

This is just an idea that jumped into my mind. It's kind of long but hope you all read and enjoy. Thanks :)

"What is this you bring me?
This cowering soul?
Do you wish this crying,
My heart strings to pull?"

The peasant looked high,
Up in my eye.
The tears he cry,
Started to dry.

"This soul is my offering,
to pay off my dept."
He said of the child,
That had not spoke yet.

"This tithe is not good!"
I shouted aloud.
"If you wish redemption,
Then bring me a cloud!"

A few days span,
The peasant returned.
White mist in his hand,
His freedom he yearned.

"This is not a cloud!"
I shouted aloud.
"It's the early days fog,"
I growled like a dog.

"But the clouds are so high,"
The peasant did say.
"I surely would die,
If they took me away."

"Then bring me a flower,
From Everest's peak.
Don't stand and cower,
Rise and seek!"

Again and again,
The peasant came back.
But always with him,
Something he lacked.

But as I was sitting,
I stood and looked up.
And waters of pity,
Flowed from my cup.

They drown me out,
And when the peasant returned.
I said with a shout,
"Your freedom you've earned!"

"For tithes and offerings,
Are not for the King.
But for widows and orphans,
Those who with hunger do sting."

And throughout the land,
I gave freedom and food.
With my riches in hand,
I turned evil to good.

And now at last,
Just a shack by the creek.
And though riches are past,
Their shine I don't seek.

For my giving did branch,
Great joy within.
And given the chance,
I would do it again.
