Deep Down Dirty South- Deep fried food Cooking on a brick grill. Catfish and grits, The staples of my hometown. Red dirt road Coats the tread on our shoes. Cotton blossom snow Lays around the fields edge And floats in the skies That were once called "So Blue". The smell of salt pork, grease, and boiled peanuts Lingers by the stands at all the state fairs. Reminiscing with some barbeque The best in the whole world A thick, sweet, tangy sauce Covers all the home grown pork. Pork grown by the fields rotated with peanuts The nutty crisp, crunch of their shells Good for the cotton plants. Bad for the weevils At the only place in the world Where a bug can be thought of as a godsend, and be immortalized like a war hero. Enterprise, Alabama. ____________________________ Another one I have to write for English I'm partial to this one but you know that's just me |
