The days are getting darker I've long since wondered how Dreams had sooner seeped From my nights into my now It's been a time since crisis Has snatched the one I was Memories are seldom clear But do never part for love A year’s but a step, a turn, a glance To one who's seen more years But youth does lengthen moments lost As does blood and tears And both I've seen in a stretch of time Seems stolen from my days Just a book of poems and mirroring scars To show for all the ways All the ways I've grown All the ways I've lived All the ways I've learned too much All the ways I've spun; but you turned away Just a few memories to clutch that leaves me here in the fading light I'm feeling what's been said Wounds quieted, only partially healed Simply brings out grey from red There's time enough to count the scars And see if it's come along Read poems begotten of anger that fill The pages scrawled upon Time enough to sit still in the dark And cry out the last of the pain To sort out the autumn from winter and spring To stop pushing away the blame The hopes of many died here But there must life beyond An image of tarnished potential, still, Can nearly seal these bonds But still I’m here; though my spring is cold I’m feeling what’s been said At this crossroad there’s still a chance To fight away the red |
