The first time I had contact with LotR was when I was 10 years old. My family and I were in Colorado. I was reading The Hobbit. But that wasn't the first time I saw something to do with LotR. We went to a The Hobbit play. I didn't really understand what was going on though, because I was only 1/3 of the way into the book. A year after that, I started reading The Fellowship of the Ring. I started it when my mom and dad were watching The Fellowship of the Ring extended edition vidio (it had just come out) but they wouldn't let me watch it. Later, when I asked her, my mom said they hadn't let me watch it because 'once I saw some of it, I would want to watch all of it, and it wouldn't be 'good' for me.' So I compramised by reading the book while they were watching it. When they found out, they were about to forbid me to read it because evediently, that would be 'bad' for me too. But I insested, and in the end, they gave in. So I read it, (skiping the prolouge because it was too boring for me), and then read The Two Towers and The Return of the King. When the other LotR movies came out, I watched them too, (unfortunately, my mom and dad wouldn't let me see them in the theaters with them because of 'unpleasent parts'.) But ever since then, I have been a loyal fan (or obssessed freak) of LotR (both books and movies). |

Got to love parents and their super-protectiveness. My father's more insulting about films or books...he just says: "Oh, you're too young to appreciate it properly." Or: "You're not mature enough for it to make complete sense.." How patronising is that? |

Both my parents like LOTR not that much, but they have let me watch it and read it. And now I am learning my little sister about Middle-Earth, she is just 6 years old and loves it already!! That must be a real Ringer! |

when parents read PG-13 and see scary images, it gets bad when you want to see that movie. my parents, though, didn't really care |
