I love that the hobbits lead very sheltered lives and are oblivious to the fact that there are things out in the world that aren't exactly pleasant.

A hobbit's life is considerably nice compared to other races. They all have close relationships with eachother, even between master and servant. They enjoy the little things in life, especially the things big people don't notice.

I guess that kind of innocence jsut appeals to me greatly. :)

I agree. Middle-earth is very lucky to have people like Hobbits. If not, what would have happened in the War iof the Ring? Someone else would have taken the Ring and would have been corrupted very easily...
Like you said, Hobbits enjoy very simple things and are not very fond of war and getting power. Like this, it does not sound important, but it turned out that this is one of the things that saved Middle-earth.

*agrees with Linwe* though it doesn't seem so at first I think that the hobbits are very important in middle-earth and someone in the books (I think it was Elrond) also said, that if the wisest and most powerful people don't know what to do the small people come and save the day..

Of course hobbits are important in Middle Earth!
Hobbits are just so COOL!
lol
I really loved the Hobbit, I read at least twice in the same school year, and it was the first Tolkien book I ever read.
It's a cute little story, and I really do like it...A LOT!

I found the Hobbit very interesting ( I read it after LotR), because it answered a lot of questions I had after reading LotR and it filled in many little gaps of knowledge (though there are still the big ones left... ;))

oh yes that would be fantastic. I think it's not as difficult to make into a movie as LotR was so they should be able to do it quite well I guess.
