In order of the ones I've read:

1. The Silmarillion
2. ROTK
3. FOTR
4. TTT
5. The Hobbit

Strange, but I don't like the TTT book as much as the film anymore...

Well, yes, I've heard people say that TTT (movie) was worst than all the rest. It's not my favorite either, but I do like it, even though I like the others more. :bye2:

Mustn't reply... I will only start grumbling again!!! I don't like to compare The Sil or LOTR to the bible in the slightest...

In my personal opinion, Tolkien's works don't really have a lot in common with the bible. Do you mean the Christian bible? I don't see much resemblance, but I'd like if someone showed me some similarities that I don't catch. :bye2:

Tolkien didn't like the stories avaliable to him at the time so he and his close friends (like CS Lewis) made their own which they shared with each other

I honestly don't see how the LotR books could mirror the bible, yes Tolkien was Christian, but there isn't really any reference to that in his work.

I can see where you're coming from Nordorianelf but like Tirithiel Hentaure said, Tolkien has said many times that his work was not an allegory to anything. And if you're curious as to when he said this I will quote a letter that he wrote, published in the beginning of the Sil

~ "But an equally basic passion of mine ab initio was for myth (not allegory!) and for fairy-story"
~"I dislike Allegory - the conscious and intentional allegory - yet any attempt to explain the purport of myth or fairy tale must use allegorical language. (And, of course, the more life a story has the more readily will it be susceptible of allegorical interpretations: while the better a deliberate allegory is made the more nearly it well be acceptable just as a story)"

He also even says himself that he wrote LotR, the Sil etc. because there were no good English myths. What there was was "associated with the soil of Britain but not with English; and does not replace what I felt to be missing. For one thing it's 'faerie' is too lavish, and fantastical, incoherent and repetitive. For another and more important thing: it is involved in, and explicitly contains the Christion religion." He found that that was a fault in all of british myths and legends that existed.

I'm sure that there is a lot more that I could take from his letter but as you might have noticed it's very difficult to read and goes on for many pages lol.

From what I read I understand that Tolkien did not deliberately make any paralleles in between the Christian bible and the Middle Earth "bible". Similarities can clearly be found but that's probably because you are familiar with both of them Nordorianelf and it's not surprising that you would notice thes things .

Personnaly I think that the Tolkien's work is a very enjoyable fictional story and I personnaly would rather not see how the two are same as I'm not Christian. Everyone is welcome to see it how they want to though.

Well, I'll just state that I don't believe that Tolkien mirrored the Bible and leave it at that.
