I'm a bit tempted, but no, I would decline as well. You would have to live with all of your misktakes and that's not all; everyone else around would grow old and fade away while you remain unchanged.

But don't you think there are people in the world who could truly cope with immortality? Yes things change, but not everyone is affected by it as much as others.

If I was offered immortality I don't know what I'd do. I would take it if the people I loved, friends and family, could also have it. Immortality is scary in a way but I would find it very difficult to say no. I'd probably regret it. The most horrible thing about would be when you meet mortal people. You'd have to say goodbye to every single one of them and you'd have more pain in your life then hapiness for being alive.
Good thing I'll never be offered immortality and I'll never have to make this decision

hm... well despite their sadness, the Elves seem to manage immortality. But perhaps that's because they're kin are immortal as well... *ponders*

Yes, and also, death is foreign to them. They find it strange.

Quote: I seem to be one of the only people who really CANNOT STAND Arwen!!
You are not alone. I could ague for a while on why I don't like Arwen. I don't hate her because she gave up her immortalitly. She abandondoned her children to go off and mope, therefore showing that Aragorn was the only thing she cared for and didn't care for her children enough to stay for at least a little while so that her children would not loose their mother directly after their father. The only thing don't like about her giving up her immortality is that she would never see Elrond or Celebrian again and Celebrian had not seen her for a long time and probably missed her.
(just saying, maybe aguing about Arwen is not apropriat for this thread and another thread should be made to debate Arwen.)

Hmm. Interesting. I don't want to argue on your viewpoint that she's not appropriate for this thread (because she is a female, so doesn't she belong here?) but I'd also like to see a debate thread on her. Many people have pretty vehement feelings about her. I don't hate her - but I like several other characters better. (Like Eowyn.)
All my opinion, though. I don't want a brawl to erupt out of this thread.

I agree Elberethsq!!! There really should be debate thread about this whole Arwen thing. Personally, I think Arwen got a few too many scenes, but I still like her. And about Eowyn and Faramir they didn't get enough scenes but I still like Eowyn.

Arwen is the best female for me and I voted for her. I think she's the most beautiful and has so strong character but after all we don't know much about her, you know, in the books there's one page about her. But I love her character because she has the courage to choose the mortal life and to watch how her love dies and then to watch how her own life fades...

I must've voted awhile ago, b/c the pole won't let me vote now, so I don't remember who I voted for! It was probably Eowyn tho. I like her a lot b/c she's very strong willed, and she is very loyal to Theoden and Rohan.

Has to go with Arwen, for forsaking immortality for love. Galadreil comes in after that just for being so powerful and rather awe inspiring

Galadriel - awesome when she's temted
Rosie - funny!!!
Goldberry - dunno, but she's fair according to Tom Bombadil
Eowyn - cool. i wanna be like her!
So, my fave is Eowyn The Shieldmaiden of Rohan

They each did something hard and special which is unique to their character. They all have such dofferent personalities. You can't hate, but you can say it's not your type of person. And elves are never bad. They are the "good people". And no ones perfect so lets not dwadle on silly human imperfections. But for the sake of all, I will start an Arwen or Eowyn thread for you all.
