The Associated Press reports that "The Children of Hurin," an unfinished tale by J.R.R. Tolkien, has been edited by his son into a completed work and will be released next spring.

Christopher Tolkien has spent the past 30 years working on the book, an epic tale his father began in 1918 and later abandoned. Excerpts of "The Children of Hurin," which includes the elves and dwarves of Tolkien's "The Lord of the Rings" and other works, have been published before.

"It has seemed to me for a long time that there was a good case for presenting my father's long version of the legend of the 'Children of Hurin' as an independent work, between its own covers," Christopher Tolkien said.

The new book will be published by Houghton Mifflin in the United States and HarperCollins in England.

Well another Tolkien book is on its way :)

I am very excited about this. Rather obviously, the story of Hurin and his children is my favorite Tolkien tale- and to have the entire story published is beyond my wildest dreams!

Kudos to Kitoky for the fabulous signature set, and art credit to engelszorn.

This is great news indeed!

What I would like to know is whether it will delve deeper into the story and will give us more detailed and different insights into its happenings than those of 'The Silmarillion' and the 'Unfinished Tales'.

Thanks :)

Hooray! Something to look forward too! I am so excited.
I love pretty much anything written by Tolkien, so news of another one his books coming out is excellent news for me!
I, too, am interested to see what kind of changes will be made, what other details will go into the story. I can't wait til this comes out!
Thanks for sharing Captain!

I'm so excited I'm bouncy! :bounce:

Sweet...I'll be buying it, even if I do find the story depressing. It's just too interesting to not read.

Tolkien's all books are nowhere to be found in Turkey or sold for a higher price so I can not read them.

Ooh....that would be terrible, to not be able to get Tolkien's books.

It's kind of hard to find them in English here, but I manage.

That's so sad Captain! My heart goes out to you. :(

It is a bit tricky finding some of Tokien's books here. Not LOTR or the Hobbit or the Sil, but some of the others, The Lost Tales for example are a bit harder to find. Probably not nearly so hard as in Turkey though. :(

I saw it on the news! I can hardly wait. The morning I saw it I printed out an article so I'd always have it to look at. Yeah, crazy I know, but that's what being addicted to Tolkien does ;)

Oh! :( I didn't see an article about it my paper. That stinks because I would've clipped it out and such.
I'm really excited about the book mainly because I think it will bring forth another onslaught of love for LOTR and Tolkien in general. At least that's what I hope.
