I'm just curious did Aragorn and Legolas know one another before the meeting of the fellowship at Rivendale? As far as I know in the books there is no mention of them formerly knowing one another. So if there is totally no mention of such (which I'm not sure of) is it possable or likely that they knew one another before then?

i'd put my money on them having met in mirkwood at some point, but probably only in a formal capacity. i reckon they'd know who the other was, but weren't any more than acquaintances.

That was my idea as well.

Have you ever read fan fiction though. People have field days writing about Legolas and little Estel stories. Some of them are good but I'm not entirly sure they knew each other very well before the Fellowship.

Sure they did..
When Aragorn&Gandalf brought Gullom to Thranduil and ask him to keep an eye on Gullom.I'm sure that is where they met because legolaswas one of gullom's Guards...

Hmm..I think Tindomiel is right. They must have met in Mirkwood.

Well, techinically, we don't know whether or not Legolas was one of Gollum's guards--I was under the impression that Orcs attacked a rather broad area, not just specifically the tree that Gollum was in.

Anyways, though, it is very, very likely that Aragorn and Legolas knew each other before the Council of Elrond.

I don't doubt that Aragorn and Legolas knew each other, as those who travelled as much as Aragorn would know his allies well I should think. Although Aragorn kept a low, ranger profile for much of his early life, he had strong ties to the Elves of Rivendell and most likely of Lorien, so it goes to say that he would know the Elves of Mirkwood. And Legolas was the son of the King, giving them even more reason to have treated together.

I never really thought about it, I just assumed they did I guess... But I agree, they might have met in Mirkwood. There's so much that Tolkien had set out for these characters that there was no space to put in, so I guess there are some things we'll never know... ;)

*Coughspluttergagcough* WHERE??

Ok, sorry, that was a little out of order, but I can't believe I just saw that... It's Rivendell, not Rivendale.

*recovers*

And I think they probably knew each other, as has been said, Aragorn took Gollum to Thranduil, so they probably met there. However, I doubt they knew each very well.

Lol, Darrell. Can you really not believe it? I see it spelled Rivendale almost as many times as I see it spelled correctly, though not on this forum. It's pretty common.

It's not the first time I've seen it either. I know it is used a lot, but every time I see it, I still can't believe it. Especially on a Tolkien related forum. :swoon:

Rivendale does look pretty, dontcha think darling Darrell? *ducks and hides*

Well, I would assume Aragorn and Legolas were at least acquainted for the reasons given above, and also because Legolas stands up for Aragorn at the Council of Elrond, defending his heritage when Boromir doubts Aragorn's rights.

*thinks how lucky Eä is that she has hidden* It's not a matter of whether it is pretty or not, it has to be correct!
:explode:

*Chains the purist in him to the chair* But yes, it is pretty. Sort of. Still prefer Rivendell. :P

 I'm sorry that I spelled Rivendell, incorrectly the first time. I'm just now reading the actual books for the first time...so I'm learning alot about LotR that I did not know before. So please forgive me.
Thanks for the information and the opinions, everybody. Oh, and feel free to keep putting them on here. :duh:
As for my opinion on the matter, I beleive that I shall keep it to myself until latter when I have gotten a little bit farther into the books. That way perhaps I won't make a fool of myself...again...

p.s. Sorry if I got off topic there.

Don't worry about it. You are completely forgiven if you are reading the books :P Sorry if I caused any offence with my OTT reaction, I should have been more subtle...

Lol....subtleness would probably have been appreciated, Darrell, but I don't think any harm has been done. You didn't really overreact, like I've seen a lot of other people do.
